Has anyone given it a go?
We have a horse who we strongly suspect has ulcers, I spoke to my Vet this morning about scoping and treatment options, I can't afford Gastroguard - apart from anything else to go down that route would cost me more than we paid for the horse! Before anyone mentions insurance it's just not financially viable for us to have vet cover as we have 7 horses at home!

My vet has used ranitidine succesfully treating ulcers in foals, indeed my mum has had a foal given this teatment succesfully. He has agreed to me trying it on ours and if there's no improvement I will then have him scoped. Before anyone throws their hands up in horror I have used my Vet for a good 20 years now and he knows I am not a numpty! He has aso confirmed that if the horse does not have ulcers a course of Ranitidine wouldn't do him any harm.

From internet searches it seems quite commonplace in America for people to give their horses human form Ranitidine and read a lot of positive reports. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it here and whther they had any positive results?

i take Ranitidine twice daily for severe indigestion, it helps but not brilliant-

I think the bigger problem is that it doesn't last for long so you need to dose very frequently. Could be wrong though!

That's 54 per day not per dose btw. but apparently not. Yes I've heard the effects are not permanent but if we see an improvement we are pretty safe to assume that's problem.
