So i have kept Flint in a field on his own for a couple of years now. He doesnt get 'along' with everyone, and to have my own field has been fantastic. I know that if any injurys take place, they are self inflicted so to speak. i've looked after the field, had it topped, i poo pick etc. Its big enouh for me to keep Flinty on it all year round. Now I have had the horse from the next field come in with me because of YM descision. They do get along atm so am happy he is with someone BUT they are turning their horse out at night and during the day starting from now. They told me they would do this when they were in the field next door, but thinking about it, i think this is highly unfair now. Flint is always my priority, and i want him to have enough grass all year round. Not only have i lost half my grazing with another horse in i'm losing even more with the other staying out all night!! a little pissed off!

Yea that is a bit anoying - how big is your field? does flinty manage to eat all the grass on his own? If he does tell them you've seen him chasing the others round the field trying to eat them - that should do the trick!

I do think that if your horse gets on with another it is better for them because they are herd animals and it is natural for them to be out in company. Is the grazing so bad that it won't support two horses even if one is out all the time? Un fortunately you are too far away from me because I would love something to eat my grass. My competition horse gets fat just looking at the stuff!

not a bad idea, he can be a right bully. Its big enough for him. Towards january there isnt much left at all and he loses a little condition although he has as much hay to eat as he can when he comes in during the winter

they fields are seperated by electric fencing. I prefer him to be on his own, i have had to had a couple of horses taken out the field becasue flint has hurt them. Even now they are together Flint dosn't bother with him. i dont feel it will support two horses. They are not the type of fields or paddocks that are suitable for 24 hour turnout.

Yep! Best idea then! Even if he isn't a big bully if people think he is he will get more munch! Hayledge keeps a lot more weight on than winter grass and hay for ours, and we rest our feilds (or the farmer we rent from makes us!) so they have fab grass now - although I guess it's not that easy at livery??

your given a a field and thats yours so to speak. this was because of other factors that he i had to share a field, but as i said MY horse is the 1st priority! thanks for the ideas though bucky and loving the last pic in your sig!

Do you pay for livery or do you rent the land? Contract?
As unless your contract says otherwise etc. their quite within their rights to have their horse out 24/7.
As are you.

im on d.i.y and we were given a spot each. It was as far as i was concerned my field. My tape, my energiser, my battery etc. They might be quite in their rights but this comes down to tother peoples actions of not looking after their fields so having to move and i dont see why i or flint should suffer
