Ok so we have been looking for a horsebox for 3 months now - sold our old one because it wasn't big enough for the new big girl. Thought it would be a doddle to get something else - wrong!

So far we have looked at two with floors so rotten they were like sponges, one that was falling apart, one with a ramp so steep oxygen was needed

. I then got wise

and asked for emailed photos - next one looked good, however photos were obviously taken 10 years ago when box was actually roadworthy

. So then we upped our budget by

£5k

....... next one was worth half that, next one was worth about £1500. Am getting serious fed up - if only someone would tell the truth before we travel the whole length and breadth of the country

Husband likes Burger King's Angus burgers so provided there is a burger king on route, I am ok! Sorry - rant over........

LOL. Poor you but agree about the Angus burger so they kind make the trip worthwile in my eyes! LOL

We bought our lorry on Ebay and drove 5 hours to pick it up. There was a lot lot wrong with it that was not mentioned but so far, it has been ok.

Oh no it doesn't look promising. I just paid £250 to get one that I thought was ok checked over properly. Turns out it was a death trap... I can't afford to keep doing that though. Where are you looking-Horsemart, Horse and Hound etc?

We picked one up for 3.5, however have spent about 1000 on it and when resprayed will probably be 5.5 - 6K. Dont envy you much, we looked at some real piles of scrap (you could take away the S). You will get lucky eventualy.

You paid £250 for a horsebox and expected it to be anything BUT a deathtrap??

Im also on the hunt but i need a 3.5 that is under £4000,which these being so popular is not a great amount really.I pref would like some living but have found most are ancient which in lorrys isn't a problem as some go on forever.I'm beginning to think that what i'm looking for doesn't exist.I also need to sell my trailer and 4x4 before i can purchase so for now i'm going to window shop and hopefully when i have the cash i'll know exactly what i want.

We were looking for a 3.5tn and just couldnt find a useable one anywhere. We nearly always asked for pictures and even then we'd turn up to piles of rust. In the end we went to a horsebox dealer who got lots of 2nd hand boxes in - I think the box was about 8K but un-fortunatly then buying through a dealer put VAT on top of that.

So pleased we brought through a proper bussiness though, first off the chap said although they couldnt promise the price we paid, they'd always be up for part exchange if we wanted to upgrade, also they ran an MOT on it and it came up with problems which they paid and fixed before they sold us the box which was fab!

I have to say I think we've been very fortunate with our lorries.

We've got 1 3.5tn that I've now had for about 4yrs. It was advertised in a local paper, the chap said it had living on which at the time I thought was hillarious as I had never seen a transit with living. But we were gobsmacked. The lorry is a proper coachbuilt job with extended back and bed (come bench) Toilet cupboard, cooker sink etc. It had just been resprayed, it did have granulistic flooring fully ruberrised and padded throughout and I've even had my husbands 18HH on it easy. Needless to say hubby nearly ripped his hand off for it £2500. I still regularly get offered 5K and still turn it down.

We also have 17ton 6horse but that one is a project to finish this year and we have just bought a 71/2 Ton N reg man. Takes 6 horses, but wouldn't dare as would be well over the weight. All we've got to do on that one is fit out some living and that one was £3500 and its amazing.

I think your as well to stay local and scan your local papers etc as we looked at some right rubbish for well above what we paid on any of these. I think it was just sods law they were the cheapest and closest.

Good luck
