Yard rule - if there are only two horses left in the field and you bring yours in, bring the other one in too so it is not left on its own.

Friend's boyfriend brings in her horse, leaves Uno out, yard owner hears frantic whinnying, looks out and sees him careering around the field. By the time she gets her boots on to go and fetch him, he's jumped out and gone to his stable.

Really annoyed as he could have got hurt, and even if boyfriend was not aware of yard rule, he should have had the common sense to bring Uno in too. He has done it in the past with other horses....

Is it my responsibility or the yard owner's responsibility to enforce such rules?

on the yard where i am theres several things that really pee me off.. one of which is nobody but me bothers to fill the horses water ( my mare is out with yo horse and anothe liveries horse)

i did this week ask the other livery to turn the tap on each time she goes down, BUT i personally dont feel it is my place to tell/ask/mention it to the other livery.

so in answer tou your question it should fall to the ym/yo

Its the yard owners responsibility to enforce rules. Sounds like she acted as she should have as she went to go get him. She prob needs to have a word with the boyfriend and owner to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I think its just bad luck and hopefully willl never happen again. Not much consolation though. I have been there too - but my horse did not suceed in clearing the gate and cut up his legs. He was never lame thankfully.

I hope he is ok

Yard owners responsibility I would say. I hate when people do that though its common sense (I would have thought). Is her boyfriend horsey though? If not he probably doesnt understand horses' mentality if not, so may not have had a clue that he should have brought both in. Yard owner should definitely have a word with all liveries as a reminder - or post yard rules up somewhere. As this girl is your friend - maybe you could give her a gentle reminder?

Aaahhhh this is why I am so glad I have my own yard. I only have 1 livery and she is a friend so don't have these problems. Am feeling your irritation.

where i keep my horse, been a owner there a week, I was told the rules about turnout ect and given a written memo, saying not to leave 1 single horse on their own, mine does not like being on own, so stands to reason others wont either. If i take mine in and there is 1 left i bring that one in too, till mine goes out again(give other one hay to keep it happy in stable)

annoying but OH probably just didn't realise (mine wouldn't have a clue that horse careering around shouting its head off was not normal behaviour!!

)- its YM's responsibility, she just needs to have a quick word and maybe overexaggerate that Uno could have got injured etc etc and hopefully won't happen again. i have the joy of having to bring a crazy horse in most days as it ends up being my two and that one left out. its demented and tries to kick me and tries to not let me near vandi when i'm catching it. i literally bring it in and plonk it in its stable but don't give it hay or change rugs- i figure owner should leave a net up 'just in case'- i always do....

Yeah, will leave it to YO....I might blow a fuse if I do it myself! Boyfriend knows to bring the horse in tho, he's done it in the past for other owners

Uno is fine tho....just jumping 5 bar gates is not helpful, altho I suspect he found it quite fun!!!!

now you are lucky!my 4 year old couldn't care less if he's left on his own and other people in my field know this and do leave him but my TB goes ballistic and i would go mental if anyone left him on his own....

think there is only 2 on entire yard that would mind being alone and this will prob never happen as 1 of the owners owns 2 so they always together and other is yo daughter and he is out with mine that is turned away for the summer and never comes in

again...you are very lucky. some horses just never take to being left alone unfortunately as it is a big pain in the a$$ when you own one!

my TB would literally gallop around and break his bloody legs/crash through the fence etc if left alone...but then my 4 year old isn't bothered. its wierd how horses can be so different....
