rant

Because people have moved into the cities, and lost touch with the old farming society? Because they've only met riding school horses, and seen horses on TV and in films, before they bought their youngster, and those other horse experiences didn't include that horses could have 'moments'? Or perhaps they thought their youngster was perfect, and thus somehow wouldn't be able to have 'moments'? I don't know.

Maybe they thought they owned a perfect Unicorn, disguised as a horse?

Totally disagree, everyone knows unicorns are hard to tame :p unless your a virgin ofc...;)

;) Hard to tame  ? But, but , surely they can't be hard to tame, if they truly love a person, they'll develop this magical bond...

And by the way, it isn't just unicorns, I've seen Hidalgo! *deep sigh* Talk about bond, when he lies there in the sand, and Frank begs him to get up... * sniffles, swoons and goes all starry-eyed*

I used to watch westerns and think "there are so many horses, why can't I have one." Now I feel the same way about rugby matches!

Bahahahahahaha!!

OP, because too many folk have too little patience to save a descent amount of money to get a more established horse so buy young instead, or because they have a massively over inflated idea of their own ability and think they are some sort of riding ace who can cope with a young horse. I'm currently riding a 4yr old for someone who is on holiday, he's ace, as laid back as they come and I have to keep reminding myself its because he's so good I'm getting on with him, not because I'm any good :)

Because they can't afford to buy a "made" horse and don't appreciated the time and skill needed to bring on a youngster properly. Unfortunately, as ever it's the horse that suffers because with no manners and looking like a giraffe it will always struggle to find a good long term home.
