Sorry need a bit of vent!

Why do people get a puppy, then not teach their puppy manners or even show it any attention then turn around and say ''oh puppy has started to get a bit too much so i'm getting rid'' but get this ''i have started to walk puppy but that's not helping'' WHAT DO YOU MEAN STARTED!!!!

I just don't get it... why don't people look up general dog needs before this... but you would think people would know to walk a dog as you see people everyday doing it!
I'm absolutely gob smacked by this and it has made me very angry!

As we have been to hell and back with our dog and parents threatened to get rid of her because of this but once i explained if we stuck to all the rules we had laid out for her she would get better and a year later she has turned into a saint! (touch wood!)

The amount of poor dogs that aren't wanted because people can't be bothered!!!!
Dogs require time and effort! Corrr!!!

Is it just me???

I'd like to join you in a small rant- NOT EVERY DOG IS PERFECTLY BEHAVED

Im sorry I do not know my dogs history, and he is not a robot, and yes is sometimes just a bit badly behaved- but if you see him kicking off and me walking at warp speed away from you- then that moment really is not a good time to want to talk, or offer advice, or cross the blumming road to be closer to me--- you are correct I do not like my dog behaving this way- and the best thing for me to do, because you know ummm I know the dog is to high tail it out of the situation- NOT chat to you about it.......sheesh

Sometimes i think some dog owners have so little compassion/ understanding even common sense for those of us with the less than perfect dog......

Welcome to rant lexiedhb - we have a few like this in the park! but they never seem to understand!

Dogs instincts sometimes take over and can't be helped but not even putting the time in just makes it worse for me!

Even my dog isn't perfect and can be the biggest cow bag but i can quickly change that with either putting her outside for her 'too reflect' as i call it, or i will be firm in my voice and she will be in her bed on her own, little things can make such a difference but shutting a dog away isn't the answer in my opinion!

Non of us have perfect dogs but if we put in the training we can at least have a good citizen, I get what you are saying Littlemonster people expect their puppy to come fully trained or at least after a few days. When it becomes an effort a lot of people just give up, either on the dog and get rid or leave the dog to its own devices.

Lexie Im guessing you are having a hard time, Dex was doing well then you had that break which couldnt have helped, but you are hanging in there which is all you can do and Ihope you turn that corner very soon for your sanitys sake.

Well if it's a puppy then it's quite normal that they haven't been walking it yet - many advise not to properly walk them until they're 6 months to avoid hip problems. Obviously this is only if they have a garden to play in and lots of contact time.

Exactly... Sorry, i'd never say it to her face, i'd love to but i just can't be bothered with the aggro it will cause!
But i sincerely hope the poor mite finds a new home where she won't need for anything :( I'm just fed up of hearing how 'bad' the dog is! (''It wouldn't be that bad if you actually gave a S**t!'' is always on my tongue!)

Sorry i didn't make this clear! my mistake, the puppy is no longer a puppy (which i think is a major factor! as its not 'cheeky' and cute)

Actually DG he has got a whole load better- just need to up the pace and keep moving- deploying handle on harness if needs be- can walk past a dog on other side of the road like that no noise-------- until they cross the road 2 inches in front of his nose to impart their words of wisdom :(

The Beast likes to think she is perfect ;)

I have a second dog though, I don't know her full history but I know she was an abuse case. I wish people would learn to read her body language. I am not being rude about walking on, I am protecting my dog, you and your dog by doing so. I tell people she is scared of big dogs. Just because your big dog is friendly doesn't mean a switch is magically going to flick in her head and she'll suddenly like it!

Here's a rant - greyhounds being exported to Italy from UK/Ireland as fashionable, elegant, low maintenance pets - galgos being exported to UK/Ireland from Spain to save them from cruelty **headdesk**

Does seem to be a lot of people that expect far too much from new puppies (& dogs), folk seem to assume dogs understand English too rather than training them to associate command with an action.

Galgo's do tend to be higher energy than greyhounds, but I've wondered if galgo's also find homes in Italy being so close to spain or if they aren't desirable there. Be surprised if many galgo's travel to Ireland given they seem to struggle to rehome greyhounds there.

Ooh, can join in?!

Don't flipping let your untrained bouncy quite frankly stupid (more the owner than the poor dog who's never been taught any better) dog jump on my very dog aggressive but very well behaved and focused dog. He was fine and happy til you let your ill-mannered brute leap at his face!

Oh, it's my fault my dog is dog aggressive?! I should walk him at midnight on the moon?! Oh, my bad! Headdesk!

I just want to say I bought my dog when I was recovering from a hideous illness that had me bedridden for 6 months. Someone suggested whippets and it sounded like a whippet would work well for me. Then it went horribly wrong! I bought, by accident a working bred whippet who nearly broke me! For the first 6 months I cried at least once a day due to things he had done :( I finally got a behaviourist involved and retrained myself to give him the lifestyle he needed. He is not, and never will be an easy dog. Hes a square peg in a round hole, but I had good advice and made the hole as square as I could make it, and accepted than anything else was a failing on my behalf not his!

He has, and continues to be the absolute dog of a lifetime for me and I adore the very bones of him! But if I'm honest, the only reason I kept him is because I couldnt think of anyone I hated enough to inflict him on :D I am so very, very glad I persevered as hes got me through an ME type illness and a fractured spine. If it wasnt for him I would be in a wheelchair!

I tried very, VERY hard to raise him properly, but I was used to springers not working bred whippet types and we were at odds for a long time! Now I know him better than he knows himself, but if it wasnt for the professional help god knows where we would be!

I was very lucky in that I had a behaviourist friend who helped me for free, but I will never understand why people dont get the pros in when they cant manage?!? My second dog is a rescue with major issues, all of which have been manageable up until now. If we cant resolve the new issue in the next couple of weeks, I'll get a behaviourist out for a session to get us all on the right track. It costs £50 ish for a decent behaviourist to come out. Thats pennies compared to the costs of keeping a dog for a lifetime, and I consider it money well spent :)
