As title states. Can RAO cause bouts of colic?? There is an old horse in the yard that keeps getting mild bouts of colic. Vet now says that he has fluid on his lungs and thinks that it is RAO and that this is what is causing the colic attacks. I have never heard of this myself so would be interested to hear from anyone who has.

Fluid on the lungs causing colic??? Good grief! That seems a back to front diagnosis to me. RAO can cause whistley wet lung sounds rather than the other way round. Maybe the vet meant that an oldie whose general health is deteriorating enough for his heart to not be able to pump properly is likely to be suffering other general circulatory problems which in turn could lead to colicky attacks, amongst other things. If the oldie was mine, I'd be very worried - recurrent colicky bouts often indicate underlying more serious problems. Coupled with fluidy lungs it might be time to take stock before something traumatic happens x

Thanx for the reply. It is as I thought too. Just couldn't quite put the two things together. I do feel very sorry for the old boy as he is looking sad and the woman who owns him seems quite happy to ride him the day after a colic attack. So wrong.
