Rather out of date sealed chaff

Ok so, I have an entire sealed bag of dengie hi-fi molasses chaff that has been kept in a cool, dry garage, only thing is it's 10 months out of date. I really don't like the idea of wasting 20kg of chaff, even if it is a bit stale. I've checked the bag and there seems to be no holes or anything, so I was just wondering if it would still be okay to feed if it smells and looks fine. What do you guys think?

If it has any added oils , i wouldn't, as those can go rancid , but otherwise i would.

I would open it and sniff. If the horses think it has gone rancid, they won't eat it, I wouldn't think.

Is it a use by date or a best before date?
If its a best before date then I’d open it and see if it looked or smelled dodgy.
If it doesnt then i’d use it.

I’d be a bit more wary with a use by date

i'd have a good look and a good sniff, if nothing crawling in it and if it smelled OK I'd offer it to my fussiest horse and if they ate it I'd go ahead

If the packaging has been well sealed then it may be more about being able to guarantee the feed value or nutrients stated were still up to the right standards (like how some vits degrade over time) that makes them put a BB date on, rather than because there's anything "wrong" with it. When you think how long we keep hay for etc I mean.

Based on smell I would. With molasses it may be a bit off though.

It wouldn't even occur to me to check the date unless the smell/look of the contents alarmed me.

We have a pet/horse food shop that stores all their food at the livery yard. When anything goes out of date that I use they sell it to me at half price, I have had lots of different chaff foods and I mix it with my normal food, as long as it looks ok when you open it and there isn’t any mould it should be ok

I’ve also fed my 2 oldies anything that goes out of date from work. (They can have as many calories as they please, as long as it’s introduced slowly of course) as long as it looks and smells fine I’m ok with going past bb dates. Including for me ?
