Rather urgent advice needed (Lucy or Cala one for you?)

We have just got our male springer out of the shower after rather a muddy walk.
O/H has found what looks to be a rather nasty looking lump on one of his testis.
Bear is only just a year old, so hopefully its nothing TOO nasty (vets appoint in morning will be booked), but anyone got any kind of idea what it could be and what could have caused it?
The lump itself is pliable, and softish but the skin surrounding it seems to be rather angry looking (red with raised "pimples")
Bear is a bit of a thicko and bangs himself about regularly, but would this have caused what we are seeing?
Any thoughts appreciated!
 
I would guess at a bite or ingrowing hair from what you have described. Doesnt sound too serious. Hope he's ok.
 
When you write lump ON the testicle, I presume you don't mean the whole or inside the testicle?

The skin is very thin and could easily get irritated, get wounds and such. It could be that the skin had got a scratch where bacterias or something else got in.

The best way to describe it would be as a pliable marble attached to the testicle.
It doesnt seem to be hurting him at all, it just looks rather nasty.

A little OT, but I am a huntin', shootin', fishin' kinda gal, not squeamish in the least, but I think Gina's post deserves some kind of health warning.

I had to remove something very like that from a horse's arse in Spain last year and I have been trying to put it out of my head ever since. THANKS, GINA!!!!
 
No its under the skin Gina.
Its a definate lump of some kind, but doesn't seem to cause him pain.
Almost like he has a third smaller testicle!
If it helps i can try and get a picture?

I'm not sure what it could be, hope you get an appointment ok in the morn. My dog gets lumps under her skin, but she is prone to fatty lumps and it doesn't sound like one of those.
 
Sounds very similar to the lump my lab had on her teat recently. This turned out to be a benign lump, thank God!
I so know how you are worrying though. Good luck. keep us posted.
 
Without seeing it I am not sure how helpful could be.
However my friend has a springer spaniel (male) and she said it sounds like a sting or something?
There is a chance it might be a tick but unless you can SEE one I wouldn't go for that, possibly a thorn or something and its swollen from it!

but good plan on arranging vet consult!!! They will be able to palpate, test etc whatever needs doing to it!! he might just require a steroid jab to take the swelling and inflammation down, or it need sampling to see if its something else (doubtable though)
Let us know what the vet says!!!!
