Anyone else have problems with rats attacking the bags of flax bedding? And any suggestions for putting them off without resorting to posion? (don't say a cat as YO won't have one!) I've lost about a bags worth over night.

Thanks

For some reason Rats LOVE flax bedding - nearly as much as straw - we had a problem when we had flax last here - The only way was to put down posion and traps. and a good cat !! We tried raising the pallets high off the floor but they still just climbed up - penthouse exclusive flats for them !

I dont have an issue with this but then I have a stable cat (YO is mad not to). I find the best and most humane traps - I used one in the feed /tack room as thats locked so the cats cant patrol) is the cheap snap ones, with choc raisins as bait. Its always worked first time for me, if it doesnt for you then smear peanut butter (they have to lick that so cant do it without getting snapped).

They are much kinder than poison which is a terrible way for any animal to die and also puts your own animals at risk as they tend to crawl outside to peg it.
