Ive seen a lot recently about the RAW diet and was wondering whether it would suit my dog. I have a 1 year old english springer spaniel who does prefer meat to any biscuit so how did people start their dogs off and what do they feed? Any noticeable differences? Oh and a lot of people say they feed chicken carcasses just wondering do the bones not get stuck in their throats etc? Thanks

Raw chicken bones are pliable so no they do not get stuck, unless incredibly unlucky. Cooked bones splinter, and can get stuck much easier. But then kibble can cause bloat/torsion so its a risk either way- I personally have never known a dog have an issue on a raw diet- but have know several get bloat on cheap crap kibble (not saying all kibble is crap each to their own!!)

I had to start mine on rabbit mince, (wouldnt touch raw chicken to begin with- blumming dog!!) but chicken is the norm- wings, mince, legs, carcass etc

Would suit pretty much any dog IMO unless your dog has very specific dietry requirements/ allergies

Read the sticky (up the top of here- if its still there)

It's not!!

I've never had any problems feeding raw chicken bones but if you are worried many companies do minces including bone so your dog still is getting bone content albeit without the added benefit for the teeth.

I chop and change quite regularly but my main staples are chicken carcass, whole minced chicken and green tripe with various other bits and bobs thrown in.

A chicken carcass from the butcher is invariably minus the wings and legs (those are the saleable bits!); what is left is pure cartilage, so no bone involved.
