Hi

I am starting my dog off on raw food tomorrow. For ease of use (at least at first) I am using Natures Menu complete nuggets ( no rice).

my dog is a domestic pet so will be fed either at my parents in the kitchen or in our kitchen.

my question is do you raw feeders put your dog bowls in the dishwasher?

Any other tips and hints gratefully received, I am sure my dog is going to love it but I feel a bit nervous.

pS I have made this decision after she have her anal glands emptied at the vet. I think I was as upset as she was.

No I don't, but then I never put my dog bowls in the dishwasher and never have done! Not sure why, as I was brought up with dogs and my mum has always done it...

Feeding raw or kibble wouldn't make any difference to me if I was going to do it

Bowls kongs implements all go in dishwasher as I would with stuff I've used for human consumption and prep of raw meat. Although I do make sure I hot wash. No difference between waitrose raw meat and landywoods raw meat. In terms of cleanliness

your dishwasher is probably the best place for it - it's being washed at very high temperatures for a longer time than you would by hand.

Yep dog bowls always go in, my raw food comes in little takeaway style plastic boxes and I bung those in the dishwasher and reuse them for other stuff too!

Thanks for your responses on this. We are on day 3 of the raw food and dog had a turkey neck last night. Me and the other half watched her like a hawk but she chomped through it happy as Larry (whoever he was)!

Yep, everything in the dishwasher - I can't imagine many germs surviving that :) . Seems a lot more hygienic than putting it in the sink. Glad to hear there's another lucky dog getting yummy food, btw ;)

Thanks for that they are all going in the dishwasher! Dog is loving the raw food but I am finding the 'bone' element a bit difficult as I am really worried she is going to choke. So far she has had turkey necks which she chewed quite carefully although one was a bit big and she ended up a bit constipated and a slice of beef heart. After the beef heart she had splatters of blood on her head it had flapped about so much! I have got her some duck necks to try. She is a collie size mongrel any ideas which bones are most the most appropriate size?
