My local farm shop only stocks raw linseed oil rather than the Branded linseed oils for horses. Is this poisonous for horses; or is it exactly the same product as the 'cold-pressed' Linseed oil?

Do any professionals know if there have been any studies on the effects/toxicity of Raw linseed - soaked linseed - raw linseed oil vs cod pressed?

Thanks for your help.

As far as i am aware, raw linseed is poisonous to horses, however if you Boil it... you can then feed it. I know a few studs that boil it ( boil the kettle and add the water so that there was more boiling water than the linseed in the bucket).. soak for 24hrs then feed.

Not sure about the oil.. i would guess in oil form its safe??? but maybe others on here would know more than me.

We always used to put it in the top of the boiled barley, let in cook with it. The smell was amazing.
Would be better to buy cooked, you can get it most places, try Charnwood Mill, sell it fairly cheaply. Save all the faffing about :)

Brilliant article 'Intouch' though I admit I'm a bit depressed that i have been wasting so much time and energy boining the little devils only to find out that I have boiled the omega fatty acids right out of them...

So , I now understand that feed grade linseed and cold-pressed linseed are both processed in the same basic way and are safe to feed.

Thank you ever so much!
