Hi,

I don't have a copy of the Riding Club eventing rule book. I was wondering does anyone know if each point BE = 1 penalty added to ones score.

I'm competing in the Open and my horse only recently picked up 5 points. (5 in total)

I was under the impression you were only penalised for each point over 20 points, i.e. points gained at Intermediate level or a final novice run pushing you over 20. (this is what it says in the BRC magasine - however my RC team lady said I have been allocated 5 penalties)

To me 5 penalites being added to my final score is quite a lot. I'm not on an experienced horse and he's not run many novices at all, I've just been v. lucky with the sections I've been in and chosing events knowing pro's will be off elsewhere!

So my question again, sorry rather a lot of waffle there:

RC quaifiers, do you get penalites added on a point for point basis, or only where BE points exceed 20?

Thank you.

the print off i have from the BRC website sates;
c) No more than two horses/ponies with between 21 & 60 BE/FEI points may be entered (in the Open class) however, they will each incur 1 penalty for every BE/FEI point over 20 points..
so you shouldn't get any penalties as your horse only has 5 points as per the BRC magazine.

i think you need to question this with your team manager.!

when is your qualifier.?

Hi ya, thanks for your responce, I saw that rule in the magazine too, so that is why I was wondering, but that was for the championship, I was wondering if maybe qualifier rules were different?

The quaifier for area 11 is tomorrow. I've already questioned my team manager but she is so excited about having both an Intermediate team and an Open she's not too concerned about the points. It's at Borde Hill.

Plus in the Open there is only in fact 1 team entered from Area 11 = US! LOL. So all we have to do is get all 3 members around the course, we could each fall off and have 3 stops, but we'll still qualify. We just all have to complete. *Fingers Crossed*

I think at Intermediate Level there are only 2 teams.

i would of thought the same goes re eligibility for the championship too.. i.e. you would still get the penalties if your horse had over 20 points.
even though your the only team its still unfair for you to have the penalties if you don't deserve them.!

good luck tomorrow.!

Definitely no penalties for horse with less than 21 points. In your team you can have 2 horses with between 21 and 60 points but they would be penalised.
Good luck - hope you get your team round!

The official steward on the day should be fully aware of the rules, & if in doubt will have loads of people they can contact for clarification.
The rule as quoted above is correct - ie penalties are only imposed on those having between 21-60 points. This is taken at the close of preliminary entry so even if more points are gained between now & the champs anyone who has incurred a penalty at area level will only get the same penalty at the championships.

Don't worry, I'm in Area 10 and doing Borde Hill tomorrow too, though not the Open. One of our Open team members has the same number of BE points as you.

As everyone else has said on here, you only get starting penalties if you've got over 20 BE points.

Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your responces. Hopefully I'll be able to get the penalties taken away if they've not already been removed now I know I should not have them.

Good luck to everyone competing where ever you are competing tomorrow.

You def shouldn't. I did the open for my area and my boy has 6points and got no penalties. The persons that came 2nd had 24 points and wasn't given any penalities.
Good luck and well done for already qualifying!!!

If the four points over & above the 20 were gained after the close of preliminary entry (21 days ago) then the penalties wouldn't apply. If however the horse in question had the 24 points when preliminary entry closed it should have had four penalties added to its score.
