I'm the team manager for our SJ teams day started well when I nearly forgot the paperwork. This was my horses first big competition with lots of people watching. He warmed up well a little sticky over the parrell but then got over it and was ok, I was 2nd to go he went in and when the spectators clapped at the person before he paniced but instead of going silly he seems to revert into himself and just felt so backwards (I have only had him 5 months) which is so different to what I am used too my last mare was a speed demon. He had fence 1 down then felt ok until fence 5 when between me and him we messed it up and had a silly stop but he went straight round and popped it, its not pretty but I was trying to get him forward -

He then had to go away while the other 60 horses jumped, got him out again and really worked on going forwards, also planned my entry better so I could use the long side to get him thinking forward rather than alllowing him to get scared, he jumped so much better, unfortunatley we had a pole at 2 (my fault not the best line) and a sticky jump or 2 but it felt so much better, I think once his confidence is higher he will be a superstar, he is just so honest and genuine.

Our teams did really well ours was the only one not placed but it was a really well run nice day out!

That's quite a spooky 'in your face' arena isn't it. I totally agree he did go incredibly backwards in the first round :(
The 2nd round was much more fluid. I liked that after the 2nd fence you didn't trot to change legs & just kept him coming on the wrong leg. IMO that was totally the right thing to do to to keep him thinking forward [awaits a slating from 'proper' show jumpers :D ]
He's actually got a really sweet jump on him & just seems to be a bit of a worrier doesn't he?

I thought that was you!

Fence 5 was awful! Matched the surface too much and was a dodgy line/striding!
I got elim there in the first round (my report will be up later)

Well done tho!
