I'd love to clip Blue's legs off as i think it looks so much smarter but i worry that he won't have any protection against mud fever, scratches and scrapes and also won't he have really cold legs?!

He lives out during the day and comes in at night....? Do horses with legs clipped out have to live in pretty much 24/7?

Also he might end up being balder than i want anyway as i'm rubbish at clipping straight lines!

I always clip my boys legs off he is also in at night out in the day. I think it helps with mud fever as you are able to get all the mud off and apply creams to help prevent mud fever easier. Where as if the feathers are left on then the mud is always sitting on the skin IMO.

I wouldnt worry about cold legs to much Jed never seems to mind.

I've clipped horses legs out before and they've been out in the day. I've never had a problem with them getting cold tbh.

As far as mud fever goes, I think it depends on the horses routine as to which is best. ie if the horse is living out, it's prob best to leave the legs on and not wash - just brush the mud off when dry. I think if you are going to wash the legs you are better off clipping, if you are leaving to dry you are better with hair on.
