How much grass is there? Is it short or tall? Do you have a muzzle?

Sorry - for some reason my post seems to have cut off mid sentence- so I’ll continue…
But then my mind started churning and worrying! Is that too long for him to be out? The grass is good and long but the pen is prob about 14x14 - he does have a muzzle but I think the grass will be too long to use it.

Can you turn him out/have him turned out later in the day, when he's had plenty of hay? That would ease the transition to grass and you could extend the time over the next few days.

Belly full of hay, 2 hours out and back in during the morning, then an hour in the evening and back in. Gradually increase time out but always with his belly full of fibre would be my method. I have a mare that reacts to too much grass with gassy colic sessions and the only way I manage her is short periods of grazing after she has had a haynet. Effectively the grass/time out is a mental treat not a food source for her.
