...a lesson on reading schedules correctly has been learnt

On reading the schedule again, I realised last night that, fairly hidden below the Class 1 criteria (horse and rideer must not have won at Prelim/Novice level....must not have completed a BE event, etc), there is in fact a Class 1B - 'Open'.

Reflecting on the comments that were made here (a couple of people suggested that I should go HC), I emailed the event secretary to say that although Ellie and I fit the criteria easily for the first class, I hadnt realised there was in fact an Open section, and that it somehow didnt seem right that we would be competing against true novices and inexperienced combinations, when we ourselves are total novices in the dressage world, but very experienced and confident as far as general riding and competition is concerned. Bless her, she actually thanked me for my honesty, and we are now competing in the Open instead.

And so, my conscience is cleared!!!

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice the other day; it did worry me a bit at first for I had never even contemplated the idea that we should not be entering. However, your comments have really made me think, and thankfully in this case, there was a perfect solution!

There is a woman in my RC who has an imported dressage horse, she does ALL the w/t tests and all the prelims when she and her horse are capable of a LOT more - tis absolutely disgusting

Anyway Miz, no idea about your story, but if you fulfilled the criteria you should have had a clear conscience anyway

Thanks Weezy - this was the original post if you are interested....I got my panic knickers on when someone said they'd always thought W&Ts were for people who couldnt/wouldnt canter in an open field.....

to be honest you would have been fine in either w&t test, but it's nice that you are so honest. Hope it goes well and that you have fun!

Good luck - I have done the W&T in the past on my first gypsy mare - basically as she could only canter in a straight line and had problems striking off. She won it after a few attempts her walk and trot was by then really good and I then started to do prelims.

I am doing my first every W&T on the 1st - Chancer again can just about walk nicely and trot - not so nicely, has never done a test before and canter is just being learnt.

What I hate is people who are more than capable of doing a prelim test with a reasonable canter doing W&T and winning. They then go onto to it at shows elsewhere and use it as a warm up and then do two prelims and I have even see people do W&T and novice - on a horse in a perfect outline and balanced canter - now that is so wrong.
