My pony had uveitus about 18 months ago and he was hospitalised for 3 weeks because of it.
Today vet has said he has mild uveitus but in the same eye, he was talking about it being a recurrent thing under stress. He has been on box rest in a new yard for the last 4 weeks which is stressful. About 2 months of the first uveitus he had a swollen eye and the vet said give him the eye drops he gave us as a spare just incase but not to call him out, again he was on box rest then and at a new yard because another horse had suspected strangles (but thankfully didnt).
Has anyone else had or got a horse like this as advice would be apreciated

a horse on our yard had it. she had it for years, she had 2 ointments which i can get the name of for you. 1 has a purple or pink stripe on the tube, the other was a brown tube. she had a uv mask which had 2 velcro eye covers. she stayed in daytime in the summer and out with my mare at night. if she had a flare up she bathed it with cold tea and put the ointment in more often til it calmed down again. the mask was great, i can ask where she got it if you like. she looked like biggles in it but it really helped. can't think of anything else but feel free to ask. i looked after her etc if owner was on hols so know a bit about the care of it.
oh now and again it ulcerated and then the vet was called.

hi
had no idea about using tea, sounds sensible! He had pred forte and atropine 1% which is what is normaly used. He has a uv resistant fly mask. Its a shame about summer turnout because he loves to live out then

His was ulcerated the first time he had it. It was green and horrible!

yeah atrropine, will ask about the other one.
i see her owner daily so if you want to ask anything just let me know.
if she had a flare up she had mask on in stable to stop her rubbing it. it was a shame but she coped well with it. lovely girl. i stayed with her when she was pts. she was old lady by then. still heartbroken tho.

I had a horse with the condition and my old country vet had me put him on aspirin [10 per day] .Condition halted then improved and Gandalf lived til 28 still sighted .Others I've seen at least got a halt in progression .

HI. My mare suffers with this. I'd had her 18 months before she had her first attack - although the vet says she has obviously had attacks with her previous owners as she is partially sighted in one eye and has islands of cataract on the other eye. She manages to see fine at the moment although the vet says each attack will destroy her eyesight further. I have one of the Guardian facemasks but these are too thick for her to see through so she is currently wearing an equilibrium one which cuts 80% of the uv rays. My mare lives out 24/7/365 and just wears the mask on really sunny days. She had her first attack in January this year and touch-wood has been fine since then. PM me if you want any more info.

my horse had it - re-ocured every few months, after roughly 16 months of on/off treatment we (the vet and I) decided the best course of action would be to remove the eye.
I now have a one eyed monster who up until last year was competing at finals in Dressage and SJ (middle two piccys in siggy)
