Jazzy had the vet to see him on Monday as he just wasn't happy on his back foot after the quarter clip had slipped into the wall of his hoof.

The vet pared out a 3" long hole by an inch or so deep, but keeping the hoof wall intact. It's been wet poulticed for 3 days, and is now being dry poulticed. It's already smelling LOTS better!

Just wondering how long it will take for the hole to close over enough so that a shoe can be put back on to protect the rest of the foot.

Thanks,

E

Your farrier should be able to put a shoe back on as soon as the abscess has cleared, he can fill the gap with cotton wool or similar, usually stockholm tar in first and the hole will grow back. 3" by 1" is rather a large hole and shows why I prefer to get the farrier rather than vet.

This.

That's an extraordinary size hole to dig when you know exactly where any infection got in  Your farrier will probably curse when he sees it!
