So after reading the bit thread I thought I'd ask advise here because we have some knowledgable peeps who might be able to help me...yard advise always seems to be dependant on who you ask and what their disapline is.

Anyway quick background, cob..bouncy..strong..puts his neck against me and does bog off fairly often. He loves jumping and is extreamly brave and confident, a real little gem tbh. He's currently in a Neue S Universal Tranz which I ride on the bottom ring for exciting stuff and schooling and hacking on the main ring. He loves the mouth piece (losenge) on this bit but the 'brakes' seems to now be failing. I've tried him previously in a Myler triple barrelled which was good but too thick for his mouth, and before we started exciting work he was always in a french link full cheek snaffle. Also dispite having rubber rings the bit is rubbing the side of his mouth after being used on the 2nd ring.

Last week he bogged off with me at a farm ride and the girl with me said he looked like he opened his mouth and grabbed at the bit before he went, I managed to stop him but did need a bit of yanking. I'd prefer to have a system that stopped him before he started (he does write a postcard before going tbh!) but not found a bit yet that helps with this. I'm not a fan of flashes or crackles and would prefer to not resort to that if I can avoid it. He was until last month ridden without a nose band but now is in a hunter bridle.

I'm keen to do more XC and next season will be drag hunting as often as possible so would like to sort out our brakes well before then!!

Been suggested a Wilkie or Tom Thumb but if someone could explain to me how this would work differently from the Universal I'd be grateful?
