last sun our 7 year old dalmation had a swelling on his hock, very small puncture wound and appeared to be trembling so we rushed him straight to emergency vet clinic where he was given antibiotoics and painkillers-two days later his leg was again hugely swollen, much more than sun and the skin was red raw all the way up his leg to his penis. so straight back to vet diagnosed with cellulitis, stronger antibiotics given and more painkillers-fri night started to be very sick so yesterday morn back to vet where he still is now on saline and antibiotic drip.blood tests done and indicated a kidney problem which scan showed some abnormalities-no tumours tho. at this point still urinating himself.this morn vet has said he now not so bright and not passed any water and basically they have no idea what is wrong-its like there is some toxin attacking his body but they dont know what.as far as we know he has not been near any poisons-we dont use slug pellets. our vet trying to get hold of someone at cambridge vet college for advice but any body got any ideas- we desperately want our dog to get all the help he needs-healing vibes or any suggestions PLEASE

No ideas or suggestions I'm afraid but sorry to hear about your poorly doggy

I had exactly the same thing with a greyhound a few years ago, although we never found a puncture wound..

The night before she was 100% normal, bright and happy. In the morning she was panting and wouldnt eat her breakfast - she was also lame, but I thought she had slipped coming up the steps and banged her stifle

Bloody stupid ex-husband went out and left her for about 3 hrs (I had TOLD him to keep an eye on her as I was at work...) and when he got back the leg was blistered, raw and bleeding all the way up

He rushed her to the vets, where she was put on intraveneous antibotics and a drip... she was there for the next two and a half weeks. The vets were fantastic, and tried their best to save the leg, debriding all the dead flesh away every few days, but in the end they had to amputate the leg.

Ellen made a full recovery (the difference as soon as the leg was taken off was amazing, she was home the next day!) and was as happy as anything with 3 legs, but we never found out what caused it. Still makes me shiver to think about it to this day
