Reaction to flu jab

My mare had a flu and tetanus jab on Tuesday night and this morning had a lump and is very sore on her neck. What should I do? Will bute help or will she need cortisone tablets to take the sting out? Someone has recommended to me to hot poultice it with a cloth for a few mins.

Just worried as going away for the weekend. PLease don't give me horror stories!
 
Am seeing him tonight as is soming to the yard to see another horse. Gave her a bute this morning just in case.
 
If it was me i would speak to vet PDQ........, as you what to rule out infection pretty quickly........ OR STAMP out any infection smart!!!!!!
 
Dont panic.. My mums mare got a very similar reaction to an injuction a couple of years ago and it was fine, we phoned the vet and he told us to keep an eye on it and it went down after a couple of days. Shes been fine with her annual injections everysince.
 
I had mine yesterday (well, the horse did!) and I was asking about Tetanus, as horses have them every 3 years, yet humans only need them every 10 years.

It seems that some horses can have a reaction to the Tetanus, which manifests itself as you have described. If you are worried, of course you should ring the vet for advice, but I understand that it will go of ot's own accord in a few days.
 
My pony reacts that way every year. Average sized lump where the injection was and stiff as a board in her neck for a few days. I don't give her anything, just leave her be.
 
hi its just a reaction to the jab, all the white blood cells that recognise tetanus as wrong, have arrived at the site of the vacincation to get it, it will have heat, swelling etc normal reaction if you have loads of responsive cells then you will get more a reaction, some are allergic to the solution that the vaccine is in but that is very rare

how old is the pony? mine has a really bad reaction so now he gets the jab between the front legs or in his case he gets it in his bum!
his neck use to swell up and he couldn't eat or drink so its in his bum from now on, but saying that the vet not to bother again with the tet just keep to the flu at his age mind you he tell me this after he stabs him!!

before anyone shouts at me he is 29, and had tet on time most of his life and now has so many any bodies .............
 
A few in our area have had a reaction, some people didn't get the vet out some did. They were stiff didn't want to move and were generally subdued. He gave them bute and advised grazing in hand, the one on our yard perked up after the bute.
 
Just keep an eye and give a few days off completely. If gets bigger get vet asap but if not it'll be fine.
 
my friends pony always goes lame for three days afetr his jabs!! she just leaves him tho!! so dont panic! hope ur horse better soon.
