Reaction to Horslyx or something more sinister?

My daughter's pony came in slightly lame before a lesson last Sunday morning. Instructor and I both felt she had an abscess brewing so we have been in the poultice cycle since then although farrier trimmed on Tuesday and found an exit hole in the affected frog so we thought it was on its way out. She has been getting more fidgety to deal with the poultice so we gave her a mini Horslyx last night for the first time ever as a distraction. It's safe to say she enjoyed it and drooled everywhere! However this morning she had a sticky sore underneath her chin, just above the curb groove. My first thought was obviously strangles but it's not in the classic place and she has no other symptoms. Our vet is coming out this afternoon but in the meantime I wondered if anyone else as ever had a similar reaction to a lick? I'm thinking it could be something to do with the excessive salivation or if she has rubbed herself on the rim of the tub with how hard she was going at it?

It sounds like it might be a reaction to the lick or the mechanics of it. I'd clean it up and put some sudocrem on it and see how it goes for a day or two if it were me.

My horses love the Horslyx so I got one of the large 15kg blocks as a boredom buster in their dry standing paddock. They had it all over their chin, muzzle, up the bridge of their nose. I learned that I had to wipe it off of them otherwise they would lose hair. Luckily it comes off easily with a wet rag.

As @Pinkvboots said, I’m sure your horse rubbed where it was sticky and it’s nothing to worry about :)

My horse is on box rest and gets one of the 15kg horselyx to keep him quiet while he is in another stable as I muck out. He always has a sticky mess in the same curb groove after it. It washed off easily tho with water so I just make sure I wash it most days.

Well update is that it was a tick! Once the scabby sticky mess was cleaned up we found it and were able to remove it. The area was pretty swollen though so think she had been rubbing it too.
