Has anybody's horse reacted to a vacc before? Worm had hers done yesterday and this morning she could hardly move! Been on the phone to vets who said quite a few have been reacting recently but I wondered
a. Has anyone had this
b. How long will she take until she's feeling better?

She seems to have perked up a bit now, but still very reluctant to move, and very stiff.

Poor thing, she's a sensitive little soul :p

my mare reacted to it once before, she seemed ok but had a jump lesson a few days afterwards and she kept stopping - she never usually stops at anything and really wasn't happy. Gave her a couple of days off in the field and she was back to normal!

Yes one of mine did a few years ago - very sore and stiff, and a large swelling around the injection site. Took about a week to clear up completely.

I always have them injected in the chest now in case an abcess forms.

My little AA mare was so stiff she had to be fed and watered at chest height. She couldn't move her neck side to side at all and the swelling was huge. She was on bute for several days and is now injected in her chest in case it ever happens again. She was really extremely sorry for herself poor girl.

Naaaw, it's such bad luck. We had her trotted up and flexion tests done to see how she's doing after her op (if you didn't know, she had fairly hefty surgery on her hocks 7 weeks ago) and the vet declared her 100% and ready for light work again! I was so looking forward to getting on again :(
Not bad though, surgeon said it would take 12 weeks, not 7 :D

My little welsh had a very bad reaction, massive swollen lump and full blown flu symptoms for a good week :(

Not nice to see her normal hypo self .. standing still

But she was fine within a week :)

My boy always reacts to his jabs, so now I give bute the day before and for a couple of days after and this really helps (on recommendation of vet). You can also get a homeopathic remedy which is brilliant but I never remember in time! Hope this helps.

One of our yearlings did this too, so stiff it locked like lockjaw, had to be fed at head height couldnt pull hay out of net. Apparantley something to do with the vaccine carrier according to vet and becoming more common. 24hours on finadyne and she was fine.
