My pony had his annual injection for tetanus and flu on Monday. He usually gets it done by his wither on his neck but vet choose to do it in his chest this time. Anyway, I noticed he has a rather large swollen lump where he was injected. I know reactions can occur but I'm just wondering if there's anything I should be doing for it?

He seems fine in hisself , I gave him a few days off after the vaccine and hacked out yesterday and today. Today he felt a bit lacking in energy but not sure if that was because we done a decent hack yesterday !
Thanks :)

My mare has a terrible reaction if it is done in the neck so gets done in the chest now. Even there she gets a swelling like half a grapefruit. It usually goes down in a few days. She always looks like she has a touch of flu after the jab.

Report the reaction back to the vet. I had the same problem very recently and my vet explained that they want to know when there is a reaction as the vet will report back to the manufacturer of the drug, and statistics are kept. It took about a week for the swelling to diminish on my horse.

Definitely report it to the vet! My girl had a bad reaction to her last vaccination, needed some painkillers, anti-inflammatories, etc. The vets then reported it to the jab company, who coughed up for the vaccine costs and the treatment for the reaction. They also said they were keeping track of any issues in case they needed to tweak the contents/carrier or...whatever it is they do!
