Hmm, I'm having Taff freezemarked on Sunday and plan to give him some calmer first. Although it reputedly doesn't hurt I can see him being a bit of a t*t about the whole thing and am just hoping he doesn't flatten the person.

How have your horses reacted? Are they generally not fussed about it or have they had more extreme reactions?

My TB hated it, and he freaked out. It definately hurt him a lot. We had to sedalin him in the end, and it took 3 people to hold him still enough for her to finish. If I'd have known I would have had the vet up to sedate him.

I think TBs react to it worse as we had some native types done and they were a lot better.

A grey I had done years ago really objected - but she was an opinionated mare and would have overreacted to anything. I have had many horses marked since, some don't even seem to notice it particularly

I was thinking of going down the Sedalin route just to take the edge of him.

He is a Sec D but is wary of new people and new things - generally once he's sussed something out and realised it won't hurt him, he's ok but as there seems to be element of 'pain' or at the least will make him uncomfortable I'm prepared for the worst case scenario :-0

ive had 2 of mine down- kwpn 3 year old- she didnt really react much just pulled faces
the wb x tb got quite shirty and swished her tail a lot and tried to run forwards.
had a bucket of feed for them.

I've seen 4 done. 2x Cobs (one grey so bald marked). 1x TB and 1x TBxWelsh D youngster, only the youngster reacted by walking circles, but that was as much to lack of handling I think. The others just ate from a bucket and did a little fidget with the 1st letter.

ALL 6 of mine, including a poncy show pony, stood like rocks, no fuss, no fidgeting. Easy for me.

Izzy just kept walking in circles, did a few rears bit most of the time stood still. Just make sure you have a bucket full of carrots/apples etc lol It won't be as bad as you think it will be.

So just make sure you have a pocket full of treats.

I have to second the food thing, my mare has not been freezemarked but she allowed the vet to insert a pipe into her uterus and proceed to flush out her uterus, all with the aid of feed. Without it, no chance of standing still! We tried, at first we sedated, then I tried food the next day, just to see and it worked!

My filly who is no problem to handle let the lady do two letters and did the wall of Death round her stable with me hanging on for grime death so to speak. I'd sedate. My old gelding didn't mind but he was a very laid back person and differant freeze mark person.

Woman who did ours said it affects horses differently and it's hard to predict what they'll be like. Some usually psycotic horses stand like angels and other normally-perfect dobbins try to kill you.

I don't think it's painful but I i would imagine it's quite uncomfrtable, akin to pressing a icecube to yourskin and holding it.

We had my baby cob done, who got bored and annoyed towards the end, but food conquers all. One shetland was fine, the other was a right pain and spun round and round.

I have a pansy welsh cob who may or may not be fine (can be funny like that) but as he's a right drama queen about everything I'm going to get him sedated for freezebranding and have his teeth done at the same time.
