i have been bringing a welsh sec. c back to fitness over the past few months, and despite the snow we managed to keep going. Prior to the snow she had been doing quite a lot of road work, then had 2weeks off for the first load of snow, and then has been mostly schooled until the second load. Managed to ride her twice most days around the land during the most recent snow, doing lots of trot and canter work, and we popped the odd log/ditch etc. Hacked her out today for half an hour with 15mins solid trot work, then a further 20mins in the school with some canter work, and she didnt break into a sweat :)

she clearly cant be ready for a full days hunting, but do you think we could get away with a gentle few hours out soon? any other suggestions as to what i should do with her now the snow has gone to get her hunting fit?? thanks

she'll be a lot fitter than some after this snow I would have thought. sounds like she's plenty fit enough to go hunting. it depends what your day is like as to whether you could stay out for a full day. I'd play it by ear on the day.

Sounds fitter than my girl! :p
Sweat is just one indication - I used to know a fully fit hunter that would be dripping in sweat at the meet just in mental anticipation.
(cooled down and got on with the job later)

Play it by ear - I would have thought you could really enjoy a good few of hours.
