I'm looking at swapping my small car for commuting/Discovery for towing combo for one vehicle that will tow one big horse + Ifor Williams 510 and also get me to work. I'm most interested in an automatic Freelander, but would look at other makes too. Can anyone give me their real fuel consumption (just ordinary driving, not towing) because I don't trust the figures given on websites!
Thanks!

I have an auto freelander td4 - 55 reg - i tow an ifor 401 trailer (not legal to tow a bigger trailer) - and get approx 25 to the gallon towing. and 29 not towing. - however ONLY do real short journeys - longer journeys prob get 32

I actually looking to sell my freelander and trailer and buy a small horsebox as hoping better on fuel (but want an auto box)

I get more to the gallon towing than I do not towing (x-trail 2.2 dci with an Ifor HB505) but that probably says more about my driving than anything else :)

I'd have thought that the freelander would struggle with a 510, have a look in Comp Riders, there is a sticky at the top :)

I tow a 510 with a diahatsu 4trak with 2 big horses without any problems same mpg towing as not. 4traks can tow 3500kg. My friends freelander struggled with my 510 and one horse, braking going down hill was very scary I would not recommend a freelander.

Sorry my mpg is 32 urban and towing, 35 motorways for fourtrak I wanted to change it for a more modern 4x4 but can't beat the economy as it's only group 8 insurance too.
