Right, as we all probably know we re-homed Dax from an advert in the local paper as we'd been turned down by various rescues for not having a large enough garden. The chap we got her from had another entire husky bitch, two years old, that he also was advertising for sale (£450! Needless to say we didn't pay anything like that amount for her ladyship...).

The bloke said that the reason he was selling them was that he was having to move abroad for work. I had no reason to doubt him and he was genuinely upset when we took her away, I felt awful at having reduced a grown man to tears. We wished him the best of luck in finding a good home for the older bitch and was very sorry we didn't have the money and facilities to take them both together.

The advert for the other husky was repeated in the paper a few times and he also advertised her on Preloved. The price was reduced a couple of times as the adverts went on.

Skip forward a few months, the other ad disappears and then this appears on Preloved:

***Forever Home for a Young Husky or Malamute Wanted***
Hi to all, we are looking for a young Husky or Malamute to join our family. I already have a 2.5year old Husky bi*ch and she needs a play mate as it has been recommended that we get another dog. she needs a playmate because even though we go out for almost 2hrs a day, when she plays with other dogs in our local park she is so happy, when we get home, she will be ok for about 3 hrs then i can tell she is getting board, even though she has lots, and lots of toys, gets our attention around the clock, its not enough. So a long story short, we took her to the vets, thought she was suffering from depression and they have suggested we get another dog to keep her company, so I borrowed my uncles Akita, and she was right, within hours the difference was apparent, so I am on here looking for anyone who needs to rehome a young husky or malamute, we would have a place in our home, we dont have much money at the moment due to work cutbacks, but we can scrap together a small amount. If anyone can help, please get in touch.

No time wasters please, had too many of them already!!!

What. The. Hell. So what, he's tried to flog his two existing dogs for whatever reason, couldn't sell one of them, then decides he'd better try and get hold of another one for free? What on earth is this bloke playing at?

I'm concerned that some genuine person will give him another dog and six months down the line he'll get sick of them and do the same again, probably making a profit if he advertises at £450 again.

I'm also really upset for the other bitch, she's clearly unhappy and has a right numpty for an owner. I only wish we'd bloody taken her with us, though there's no way on earth I could have paid money for her and had another spaying op to pay for on top (besides the fact that it'd be totally impractical in our house to have two).

Argh. I'm going to cuddle my Daxy-dog and hope that she knows she's better off with us!

Sounds well harsh. Lets hope everything turns out ok for any dogs, in that household :(

Some people are like that, think they can trade in the dogs they favour less and replace them with different ones. Oh well, strokes for folks I guess.

I really can't get my head around that mindset - all of my animals have been for life, even the bloody difficult ones. Dax is a bit of a challenge compared to most dogs, sure, but my immediate thought is to get it cracked rather than palm her off on someone else - shame he doesn't see it that way.

Sorry but that is why I would never, ever buy a dog off those sites, full of crooks and gangsters - this story is a complete lie.

MORE LIKE - buy em cheap or get em free and sell them on for a massive profit. The people on those sites who are genuine, are in the minority, I am sad to say.

Thank fook Dax has found a good home with you. People, please don't fall for this crud.

Rubbish, isn't it? Some of the adverts on there really, really worry me. I must say it's brilliant for buying and selling stuff, we got the second-largest Savic dog crate from a seller on there for £40, brand new condition - PAH sell them for £110. But for animals and livestock? :(

Description
I am looking for bitch dog, either for free or a low price. Would like one for me and my son, as he loves dogs. I have a large house and a back garden plus there is plenty of places to walk near me. Please please please as anybody got a dog for me and my son?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go on Dumbtree, Dumbdeal, FleaLoved, there are HUNDREDS of ads like that. 'My little boy's puppy got run over and we can't afford a new one, please help' 'My dog died and I live on my own, would love a dog of (SPECIFIC AGE AND BREED) for cheap or free' 'Wanted, little dog for my dear old Aunty Flo to make her happy again'.

No sorry, makes me absolutely fuming, these are manipulators, dealers in animals, scumbags. I am sorry that you have been stung but if people are more aware then hopefully this shameful scam will stop.

It makes me so mad that people use these emotive stories to try and con people. We could all try that, "I am so sad that I don't have a nice little horsebox to take Murph to show, I haven't got much money, please can anyone help".;) Dax is one lucky lady she found you, perhaps you could contact the bloke and ask what happened to his move abroad. Or then again maybe I could offer him my husky x (see my post below).

As far as I'm concerned we got off quite well on the deal - I have a lapful of beautiful (but increasingly heavy, argh! *elbows*) dog, safe in the knowledge that she's away from that maniuplative a*sehole. Shame he got the money (£100) instead of a reputable charity, mind you - a small price to pay for me to know I have a lovely happy dog, but we've helped perpetuate the cycle. :(

That other bitch is going to haunt me, she is a beautiful dog and doesn't deserve that kind of treatment.

I was sorely tempted to contact him to offer to take the other bitch if he'd had no success in selling her, though it would be madness to do it (and of course I wouldn't offer any money, so it probably wouldn't happen). He has my phone number and email address so if he was genuinely concerned about the welfare of the remaining dog I'm sure he would have called or emailed me ask about a deal for Dax's return.

I suppose that's not so bad but there are people not so clued up as yourself paying megabucks for mongrels, or substandard, unhealthy and of course, very unhappy purebreeds, who will often have behavioural problems resulting from having been shunted from pillar to post their whole lives, which of course makes them more liable to be offloaded, AGAIN!

I had a total rant at a friend of a friend last night for saying he wanted his dog and bitch to have puppies for a bit of 'extra income'. He was of course willing to shell out for health tests when I mentioned them, but when faced with the reality that just one of those pups, from two very beloved pets, might end up in rescue or in a bad home (like the bitch came from!!!), he was very upset.

Some people are just tools willing to take advantage of the good-natured.

If she keeps spreading out on the sofa like this she can bloody well go back. :p

What a total tw@t! Thats all I have to say on the matter!
So pleased that Dax is well clear of him and living the life of Riley with you now.

Did you have to pay for the dog? Surely if he had been geniune and concerned about finding them homes, he would have done so for free and not asked for money.

True - she was advertised for £250 and when I first rang I made it clear I wasn't prepared to pay that much but could give her an awesome home. He suggested he'd take £100 to cover the cost of her vaccinations to date (which we have proof of) which I accepted as fair enough, given that it's about the same as we'd have to pay to the Dogs Trust or similar. Like I said, shame it hasn't gone to them instead!

Erm excuse you I have first dibs on her lol lol

will pass this round friends in the breeds incase someone gets this numpty on the other end of the phone

If she tries to push me off the sofa again tonight I'm slapping a postage stamp on her and sending her your way. :p

Yeah, just watch out for someone with an Indian name (British accent) from the Telford area in case he's actively ringing up about dogs for sale.

Oooh, while you're here, settle a discussion for me? Dax-wax currently weighs 18kg and Gazehound expressed her surprise at how little she weighs - how much do yours weigh, roughly? I know she hasn't finished growing yet but I'm guessing she won't pass 22kg.

Cyrus is a big dog 25 inches to his shoulder and weighs in at about 29kg, he could do with dropping a bit
Diablo is 23.5 inches to his shoulder and weighs about 22kg I`m quite happy with his weight nice covering on his ribs but still has a waist

A siberian bitch will usually weigh between 16 and 23kg obviously it should be in proportion to her height

I told her her skinny dogs must have lead bones. :D

She's just shy of 20" at the shoulder so 18kg does seem about right, she's still doing the skinny thing of growing up rather than out - apart from when she's scrunched up making fat faces...

Sounds about right she should be just about finished height wise but they are never really fully mature till they are about 3 years old

Shes such a pretty little thing even with the fat faces, my boys and Loco would love her :D

And she would love them - we met a teeny weeny 4 month old pure white sibe puppy the other day and she went mad for it, you could see her thinking 'wow, it looks like me, lemme see!'. :D

They'd probably go mad with each other, she is really dominant in play, she'll go up to a strange dog and put both front paws on its back and stand over them, then immediately drop down into a play bow so they can't argue. :p

Just like Diablo :)

Wow, different breed I know but B is 40k and I think he is skinny....he is all legs, to be fair :p
Don't know how tall he is because he will not let the measuring stick anywhere near him (solid as a rock, ahem ahem...) but I do think he is oversize, bigger than 62cms anyway.

Loco is 24.5 inches and weighs in at about 39kg and shes not the biggest moot i know by far lol

Puppy was blooming huge, especially for a bitch and more like 55kg :eek:

That's a mahoosive moot! :D

18kg is quite enough to cut off the circulation from one's legs, why anybody would want a bigger one I don't know. :p I'm just thankful we made the decision never to allow her on the bed...

Isn't it surprising how weights differ in a breed. Evie is about 29 kg, Buffy and Saffy 32/33 kg yet Buffys mum weighed over 40 kg. She did carry more weight than the current girls, but certainly wasn't overweight but had massive bone.

Whereas my skinny, ribby spangle is also 20 inches to the shoulder and weighs a whopping 23kg :D

Do everyone's dogs eat bowling balls as a hobby or something? :p

Didn't think this quite warranted another thread but I am a proud mummy so I'll dump it here - I'm fairly sure three pips is the usual 'come' signal but my OH is a doofus who keeps forgetting and only blowing once when it's his turn, so one pip it is.
