There was a thread the other day about horse flies, I found this one tangled in Lola's mane this morning, knocked it out and used about half a can of Konk to kill it. These are completely evil (only the females suck blood) and go for the parts of the horse that it can't reach, that sounds like a certain beer commercial!

and the bottom of it, ugh, gives me the shivers just looking at it!

Good Morning Helen,
Achavie indeed! They are horrible, and the reason I've had my horses in every day for the best part of two months

Do you remember the reaction warbles got from horses, that mad, panicky galloping into a muck sweat? That's what these did to my lot.

I have 20 acres of sand trails through forest here that I haven't been on for months because these things (amongst others) ambush me the instant I set foot in the trees. What a waste of land

Not seen you around much lately, how are you?

Yeay, Im fine hun - forum was getting in the way of yard duties so I've had to get tough with myself

I havnt seen a warble fly for a few years now but I do remember the affect they had on the gg's. Fancy having all that wonderful Canadian woodland and not being able to enjoy it! Why not get one of those disposable paper all in one suits with a helmet

and dont forget to take a piccy for the forum

I still have that bug. Daughter wants to take it to school when term starts again next week, it is tightly shut in a plastic box, in case it is just sleeping.

Which is more than I am doing!

I have been to bed, tried to sleep, failed miserably, got up, went for a walk around the fields (3.17am here

) with the dogs, saw 3 raccoons and some deer, and now I'm back on here (N.A forums are all, very sensibly fast asleep!)

Helen! No, no, no, I am not setting foot in a mossie suit, not even for you and the Forum

Actually, the woods are OK, when you are on the Quad and going fast, but if you stop, all the bugs that have been chasing you catch up and crash into the back of you, bit dodgy if you have to open/shut a gate. Which I didn't do the other day and was the reason why I ended up 3 miles away, sitting on the tailgate of a truck leading two horses home at silly o'clock in the pitch dark

Aw, I feel all homesick!

Those are very nasty buggers. They like to land on top of the horses' quarters where they can't be reached. One of them nearly got me killed once when I was riding a horse that tended to flip over when he panicked.

thats huge...! I suffer just from little horse flies in my field but this prehistoric monster would prob suck my horses dry..!
Enfys - your palomino horse in your signature looks just like my charly ;0)
