Right, basically, I'm in a quandry.
Middle of Feb, I am hopefully competing on the RC team for the novice indoor SJ qualifiers, at our local venue. Although this is 2'6 in first round, 2'9 in second, the JO can go up to 3'0 and it is usually fairly competitive. Restriction is no money BSJA so we are fine - never won any money at all!!
I haven't jumped there for ages, so want to do a warm up competition in that arebna/over those fences.
But I can't decide which one to do! I can either do a PC open show and jump the 2'9 and the Dengie Qualifier (90cm) as an open competitor (sadly far to old to be a PC member!)

OR

I can go the following weekend and do a local RC show, but the way they have laid out the classes there is CR at 3'0, then the open at 3'3 in first round, then goes right back down to 2'3, 2'6 and 2'9.

Now, I usually compete at about 3'0, up to 3'3 (schooling 1m at home), but 3'3 in the first round sound too big for me especially as its meant to be a warm up for the following weekend, so last thing I want to do is scare ourselves!!

Problem is, although PC show has classes at better heights for me (2'9 and 3'0 essentially), I did a PC show just after christmas and was one of only about half a dozen adults there!! So would rather do the RC show, but then would have to jump 2'6/2'9 as cant stay there from 9am to 6pm to do first and last classes of the day!!

Is it bad to do a class a bit smaller than usual? Will people think I'm pot hunting? I mean, he's not that good but will we look out of place in a 2'6 class? To be fair, he's actually less likely to jump clear over a smaller course as he gets too fast and cocky. Oh such a dilema, and need to send entry off to one or the other soon!! I'm probably being really silly but would be very grateful for any advice

Help

Nope, BCA.
Very true about th kamikaze tendancies of the ponies!! Think I might go for the smaller class then as no one has shot me down for suggesting it

Hi Emma,

Is this the SORC SJing?

It seems to me that they have put in a big SJ height to start with perhaps cos competitors who jump bigger prefer not to hang around all day for the last class?

I went to BCA last weekend for a PC comp, I was one of the only few adults there. We did a brill clear round but nowhere near quick enough to beat the kiddywinks. I did the 2ft 6 class. There were still quite a few adults competing, no one made any comments about pot hunting or adults competing. At the end of the day, its all money to the PC!!

My aim is to do 2ft 9 this year, I was tempted to do that class last Sunday, but decided to leave it until I have a few more 2ft 6's under my belt.

I went to look at the course and it was nowhere near 2ft 9! My friend said that the PCs tend to err on the side of caution and not do a full up course, which I understand. However could you imagine then going to a RC event to do the same class, cos then the fences would seem HUGE.

I may go to BCA for that show too.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Hi SunshineTallulah
Are you a fellow 'local' to BCA then?
I know what you mean about the pony club kids being super quick - another reason I lean towards the SORC show. I can see the logic of having the big classes first, but 3'3 in the first round means 3'6 in the jump off is just too big!!
I might just go and do the 2'6 and 2'9 classes at SORC, even though I'd probably usually jump 2'9 and 3'0 these days...having said that my little horse tends to get careless over smaller fences and I get a bit gung ho and we have poles down!!
Anyway, might see you there! Are you an SORC member?

Hi ya!

Yep, I am about 20mins away by lorry from BCA, so not far. I prefer jumping there to Snowball - so tight in there.

Are the classes not 2 phase? I hate waiting around for JO's, much easier to do two phase.

You could always go early and see how big the clear round course and enter on the day? Send in your entries already for the other classes.

I am not a member of SORC but I keep an eye on their schedule of events.

I am a HWRC member, the schedule for the year has come out and there is loads on this year. Stuff at BCA, Rosehill, Widmer. So if you are local, why not come along? Everyone is friendly!
