ok, me being my usual self, in work on call with a billion inpatients (ok 3) having a quick break decided to play on the internet which got me thinking.

My loan horse is registered with some horse body (think it may be driving, even though he has never even seen a harnes...) and that is all in his passport.

if one day we were to get into a discipline which we ended up competing in would he be registered with them and could a different 'show name' be chosen?

not sure why i thought of this but now ive thought, i want to know!!

Thanks in advance and sorry if it is a really stupid question!!

Hmmm...his registration is probably related to his breeding. His registered name will always stay as his registered name for stud book records. You shouldn't have to re-register him to compete in any discipline, in fact I think they quite like seeing what breeding is coming through in the various disciplines. The other thing is that if your horse is registered with a horse society, eg for me it is the New Forrest Pony and Cattle (how rude!) register, you will have the reassurance of a certain level of thought having been put into producing him. You should also be able to look up potential relatives to your neddy and see how they are doing and what they are doing if they are in the leagues so to speak.

British Driving Society are a PIO , butnot a breed society or stud book.

If yous has no breeding details or breed registration, just a basic ID Passport, then ask them if you can do a name change,
Farmkey will do a name change at asme time as onwership change for a very low cost. BDS may do likewise?

he dosent belong to me as he is on loan,

if in the future we did get into any competing etc, would he be needed to be registered for that then? if his passport is only that?

Thanks again guys

Unaffalliated, you could enter and use what name you want to.
If he was affiliated, then you;dhave to go a more formal route,
Also be awre fo any flu vac requirements ( eg Riding Clubs) where his entered name and flu jabs pages would need to match.
