I'll try and keep this short! Sold my horse in April because I couldn't afford to keep him, but circumstances have now changed and I am in a position to be able to keep one again. I am going to look at a loan horse this afternoon and I am so excited I cant sleep, which is why I am on the computer!

One concern, his owner has told me over the phone that when he isnt fit he gets excited in canter and can put in a small buck, but not enough to get you off. This is a very experienced dressage horse and he is 15 years old.

Now, I was never the bravest of riders, and this is worrying me, because I dont want to waste her time, and he sounds lovely in every other way, but I dont bounce very well any more!

Do I go or not? I have no faith in my own abilities, my best friend says I am a better rider than I think I am, but my nerve is very fragile and it doesn't take a lot for me to lose what bit of confidence I have. I dont jump any more but I love my flat work and hacking, so he will be perfect if I can just get my head round the rest of it!

What would you do? She sounds a lovely girl and I dont want to waste her time, but what she thinks is a little buck might be huge to me!

Thanks for reading, sorry for sounding so feeble!

Definately go and look. I agree about you need to see this horse cantered in an exciting environment where he might put in this buck.

One persons idea of a little buck, might not be your idea of a little buck. On the other hand he might just put in a little cow kick occasionally, which you'll hardly feel.

The good thing about a loan is that the owner would be more likely to be cautious, making sure she gets the right rider, otherwise the horse will be back with her in no time.

Go see the horse!

The good thing about loaning a horse, is that if it turns out you don't get "on", you can just hand him back to the owner. So you have nothing to lose.
