I'm a bit of a lightweight and only did page one and although I agree in principle to not letting your dog molest others without invitation I will say that you can't compare a dogs behaviour to a humans. They interact completely differently for example, if a strange man sniffed my behind I would be mortified (or think I was down the pub on a friday night!) but one dog sniffing anothers behind is only the same as a hello in human terms. My opinion is that it's the owners who yell and scream and drag their dogs away from this pefectly normal behaviour who cause more problems by not allowing their dogs to be dogs.

That is partly what I though the article was saying?

I know you can't compare them with humans - but I quite like the analogy in that we understand human behaviour and so the scenario would seem wrong - but people don't always understand dog behaviour...
