Really good lesson yesterday...

Have started riding my bosses new horse (the coloured in sig) and have had a couple of disastrous hacks on him (bolted with me 5 times on one hack and pulled a muscle in my shoulder). I thought it would be a good idea to have some lessons on him and had a great one yesterday.
We just did walk and trot on circles going from rising to sitting and doing lots of transitions to get him paying attention to me. I was exhausted by the end of it but have now decided he is a lovely horse once i get the tuning right!!

The best thing is that his owner felt that it would be good to put my OH on him too (he has just started riding and is addicted but horse he was riding has been sold-middle pic in sig on grey) and he did really well!!

Errrrr.......five times? Do you not just mean he ran off with you? It would have to be a complete psychotic beast to bolt five times in one ride, id be selling it off to the meat man as an unpredictable, dangerous animal!

yes... i mean bolted.
as in i had a nice controlled easy canter and suddenly into blind gallop for no apparent reason.

Ahh that's great. I find that doing a few strides sitting then rising, etc is a really helpful exercise for the gee gees I ride!

good exercise for me too!! Its teaching me to sit in the right place. I have a tendancy to tip forward.

Yeah it's great, you know you've got it right when there is no change in the horse's way of going when you change from rising to sitting, etc.

thats what I'm most proud of because as soon as i started rising att he start he was rushing off a bit but by the end he was going really lovely. We cant ride him into a contact properly as the bit he's in isnt quite right, we're having trouble finding the right one!
