Really itch dog - not fleas!!

Hi guys, bit of advice if you could please?

Pippa (JRT) got hold of a hedgehog flea about a month ago (I take in rescues and she sometimes gets one little visitor) which was quickly caught and squished, however, since then she has been itchy and scratching.

In case there were any more buggers I couldnt see/find, she had a collor and a bath in medicated dog shampoo. I also go through her coat with a flea comb as I find it helps get rid of any shedding coat, and there is nothing to be seem in the teeth.

She is still itchy and has made herself a little sore in her armpits and inside her back legs, so I have put some Camrosa cream on her - no difference!

Any idea's?

You should never mix flea treatments and collars are know itch causes.

As above - what do you feed, wash with and any changes? Could be a floor cleaner or a room spray.

Thanks for your replies. She is 8 coming 9 this Nov, is fed on Bakers Senior with a joint supplement she has been on for nearly a year due to her having popped her knee out several times on the one leg!Nothing has changed in the house as far as I know - I itch if we arent careful with the wash powder etc so I dont think its changed!
I didnt realise that collars were itch causes! She has had it off for about a week now any way - I took it off to bath her and didnt put it back on again.

My OH doesnt think she is scratching as much, and it definitely less frantic, but it still bugs me!

I used to feed my old dog Bakers before I realised it was evil and it contributed quite a lot to his itchiness, infact he completely stopped after a few days of coming off Bakers.. worth a try ???
 
Could be worth a try Orbie, but she has been on it since a puppy so I dont know if that would be the cause? She is normally not an itchy dog, its just this last month or so.... I might just pop her over to the vets next week and see what they think.

Change to wet food ,and mix in a couple of cubes of spinach from the s,mkt.It really does do wonders. An every day remedy ..but it is EVERY day!
 
Change to something like Chappie or something really plain or simple. Bakers is full of rubbish, colours, additives, carcinogens, it's like McDonalds/blue Smarties for dogs, yummy, addictive but not necessarily good for them...the intolerance may have been storing up for years.
 
Definately get off the bakers - it's full of really bad chemicals, try a fish based diet and keep it plain. Give about 6 weeks minimum after change of diet to see if there's any difference because it takes at least that long for the allergens to get out her system -good luck

I would try bathing your dog again, being careful to pat dry the sensitive areas and applying frontline just to be sure - otherwise a trip to the vet?
I use a special pet wash shower head to wash my dogs with, its a lever operated one which you can adjust the pressure of the water with, so you can be really gentle and targetted with sensitive areas.

Can flea eggs survive medication? I don't know but some bugs (mites?) can, so you have to treat twice -- once to kill the adults and a week or so later to kill the youngsters that have just hatched. Just a thought.

My GSD has been scratching a lot lately, so she got a dose of louse powder and has been fine since. If she had passengers, I've no idea what they were!
