Pics are in PG so please go have a look, we went to our first show of 2008 on sat, and the first time I have ever done a showing class as I normally jump but have lost my confidence a bit but still wanted to get her out and about, anyhoo....

We entered the small ridden hunter and the riding horse, so we went in and walked around and she was fine then the judge asked us to trot on she then started to jog a little and mess around, then in the canter shes was jumping forward and generally not listening!!

Her back teeth and everything are fine so I no there is nothing phyicaly wrong with her, she gets really excited when shes behind others and it was her first time out so...

I was really pleased with her overall as in our individual show she didnt put a hoof wrong! we can 3rd and 6th.

Can anyone recommend any calmers or rescue remody that may help or has anyone else found another method of calming them down, as I really enjoyed myself and would love to get more serious about showing??

Thanks for reading, if you got this far!!

Hi

Saw your pics in the gallery, you both look really smart and you did well. Maybe, you are being a bit hard on yourself as this was your first time out this year and your mare is more used to the more exciting activities - she probably thought she was going hunting.

I always think shows can be awful bloody places because there is always SO much going on in one small field! perhaps the key is to get her out and about as much as possible, and don't put too much pressure on yourself, you don't even need to enter anything if she is a bit wound up, just concentrate on getting her to settle and listen to you and that in itself is a huge achievement.

Small dressage comps are always great for this type of horse, they are never too busy as people tend to arrive for their given times and hopefully she won't get too excited.

Calmers imo never seem to work very well, I would certainly try to settle her down naturally first.

Good luck, she's a lovely girl

thanks kibob, ye im probably being a bit hard on her as she has never been in that kind of environment where shes has to follow another horse apart from hunting! I was anoyed with the judge as he didnt want to ride her, I think he was a bloody wimp as she wasnt doing anything that bad! x
