One of the lovely girls up the yard who lets me hack with her (i.e. copes with me clinging in terror around my horses neck and whimpering the whole way round) has been trying to encourage her mum back into the saddle for a while.
The mum is very slim but tall so feels too heavy for my friends horse and he is a handful (plus she's not ridden for a while).
Well as a thank you for her hacking with me I said her mum could ride Hovis yesterday morning. I didn't see it as was detained at a meeting but I got there just as the mum was leaving. She was grinning from ear to ear and was SO happy.

Apparently Hovis was an angel and looked after her really well but was in no way "ploddy". Utterly utterly pointless post really but I'm so proud that my 5 year old boy is so good that other people feel safe on him. She said he was a credit to me which really chuffed me - he's my first young horse but maybe I'm not doing that a bad job of teaching him!!

Sidney is still on small paddock turn out with his fancy new high heeled shoes on.
For a horse thats seriously lame he's doing a good impression of not being as he's prancing down the fence line tarting at the girls.
He goes back to the vet in 5 weeks time to assess what the new shoes and the joint injections have done.
If they've helped he'll be allowed very very slowly to start light work.
If not then we look for plan B.
The vet has said he'll never ever jump again and he'll not be allowed to do heavy road work but maybe he might be able to do hacking and dressage. But only if we can get him sound which is still a very big if.
So we're taking it a small step at a time and praying for the best.
 
Well done Hovis for being such a good boy! My green ten year old has recently been doing the same and it's so nice to hear how great someone else thinks your horse is.
Am sending some vibes for Sidney too
