Thinking of buying my loan horse after christmas as owner said she would like me to buy her. We have'nt worked out a price yet so I just want to get some ideas as I dont want to offend her owner by offering to little..
She is 15hh 12 yrs bay mare, welsh x tb, has done xc, sj, dressage, hunter trials etc, good to load, clip, catch, shoe.

Now the down side, she can be really mareish, if turned out with gelding she will contantly be in season, she is not a novice ride gets very strong, can rear and get very spooky, also she is very hard to put a bridal on as she is headshy. She also has had a bad back and is cold backed in the winter.
When I first got her she was extremly (sp) over weight and had the start of laminitus(sp) and had been out of work for 6 months, She was also so bad with her head that I used to struggle gettin a headcollar on her.
She is now fit, healthy and so much happier with her head. Im just worried that her owner will price her up to how she is now and not on how she was when I first took her on.
Oh also the price would include a 16" wintec 500 with cair and cheap brown leather bridal and 2 t/o rugs and 2 stable rugs.

Does the owner know you are thinking of buying? If not I would throw the ball in their court. TBH I think previous laminitis should keep the price really low as you have the constant management problems to think about. They might be prepared to let you have her for a token sum?

I would let the owner choose a price, if they really want you to have her and know that you and she get on really well you may find they offer her to you cheaply. If they ask for too much you have to be strong and explain why not (previous lami etc) but you may be pleasantly surprised.
