But actually not too disappointed!! Am I weird?!
crazy.gif

Had lovely times today, so wandered over there this morning G horse was looking gorgeous even if I do say so myself
tongue.gif
Got lots of lovely comments from people warming up with/dressage stewards as he was going beautifully.....UNTIL we went into the ring. He was a bit like an unexploded bomb, combined with the fact the judge we thought was a bit mean with her marks for his trot work, meant we came out with an APPALLING Mark of 42

Oops.

Lots of time to walk XC. It was a long course at 5.51 obtimum time, and wasnt impressed with the ground at all I'm afraid
frown.gif
However decided to have a slow wander round, and any sign of unhappyness etc I would retire.

Went in and Sj'd, trying a new approach of praise after every fence to help him grow in confidence, as after a tune up on tues at our local centre after Sundays performance at Eland, the trainer there was very quick to point out he looses his confidence very quickly, so although he has all the ability, he just doesnt have the confidence to use it!! So warmed up ok, went in and he jumped a really nice round, and grew in confidence as he went round with lots of "good boys" and pats
grin.gif
We had no. 2 down as it was too small to even look at, and the second to last fence down which for some reason everything was looking at, but did the biggest oxer on the course on a related to planks beautifully and made the distance in the double easily
grin.gif
SO first example of not great on paper, but fab round.

XC time, he started off fab, really quick thinking, clever with his feet and gave me a great ride. Came to no. 4 a double of industrial pipes on a 4 stride distance on a curve hiding the second one from site until the last minute very nicely, was a bit loky but very quick with his feet to pick up and jump the second part nicely. Over a big square thing, through the first water in trot as had a sharp turn to a open ditch, trotted to the open ditch, dropped his head to have a good look and had a refusal called out
mad.gif
I swear he didnt "stop" or step back
frown.gif
Jumped it well though, went up the bank to a log, little upright great, the big white "Lorries" skinny log ontop of a mond beautifully, skinny flower bed no probs (HUGE jump over this!) then turned towards home to a big log drop with wigwams on the landing side, and he just didnt know what to do
frown.gif
One run out, represented and should have just retired as very unusual for him to say NO so positively XC, but unfortunately didnt think quick enough and got the big E
frown.gif
Never mind, pleased with him upto that point, jumped the problem combination well, just disappointed didnt get to go through the water as would have been nice and educational for him, but thats life!!

SO thoroughly crap DR, Good SJing but not on paper, and really a crap XC but still was quite
grin.gif
anyway! But cant blame him saying no with the ground being so crap and silly great wigwams there!!
tongue.gif
Weird how days an out isnt it?! And I lost count of ow many people told me he was stunning, so that was nice, even if he was being useless today!!
tongue.gif

Thanks for reading!!

If you are pleased that is the main thing, you can work on the things that you know can be improved on. We are doing the novice tomorrow hope the gound is ok but rain will just make it slippery

Oh, never mind, but as you say lots of positive things to take from here. Join the club! I didn't walk all the PN course so didn't see the wigwams up close, there was lots to look at today wasn't there? Might have a nosey tomorrow as am dressage-writing for my sins...

Well done anyway!! He is lovely
smile.gif

It's the progress that counts xx

I've been more happy with some DR tests I've done where I didn't get placed than some I have won!

As long s you are happy that is the main thing
smile.gif
Again it does not sound awful on paper anyway sound like the xc "refusal" with the ditch may have been very unfair and the other just sounds nasty with wigwams the other side

I think the important thing here K is that you are not too dissappointed with his performance. Which means that he can't have been THAT bad. I try not to worry too much about the result card, some people become a bit too obsessed with it, in my opinion.

Xc training next then?

The positives sound very positive and the negatives don't sound that bad (what with some odd judging) so well done. If so many peeps thought he was stunning it must be true - and how cool is that!

Well done.......

Cass with Louis just had 3 crap runs on trot (3 big E's) but I took her schooling last week and sorted him and he went clear today.

the tent fence was not very nice and on the hard going was not great.

Thanks, the SJing was the main aim today tbh. My mind set wasnt 100% for the XC and I just shouldnt have run him tbh, but no loss and he was fab upto there!! So just a nice schooling session XC before Winkburn planned, and alot of flatwork practise!!!!!

That wigwam fence was so nasty. I couldn't believe it was in a PN. It was huge, under trees and with the downhill running you into the bottom. I couldn't stop my horse coming into it so had to turn a circle to get him back but then I couldn't get him back on his hocks so he ran into the bottom of it and clambered all over it. To be honest we made that much of a hash of it I would have preferred him to stop but he didn't and it really shook him so he wasn't interested in the sawmill and stopped three times so I had a big E too! He jumped really well up to then though so I'm happy
smile.gif
as he was really sticky at Solihull and I fell off.

We had 4 SJ down but I was pleased with that too. I think I'm mad!

It really wasnt nice was it?! I havent come across anything like that anywhere else tbh. We have jumped the sawmill and everything else there before, and he gave me an awesome feeling over some of the squarer fences, so I am happy
smile.gif
The SJing is always either a clear round there or multiple fences!!!!

My Mum did the guided course walk at the PC champs with Jeanette Brakewell and even Jeanette thought it was nasty! It was by far the biggest on the course and seemed so out of character compared to the rest. The combination at fence 4 was pretty nasty too. I saw a few hairy rides through there! I had some fantastic feelings too and he was so much more confident than last time out
smile.gif

I'm off to do some XC schooling before our next event to get our confidence back and try to find a bit I can stop and turn in. He's only got a snaffle at mo so I'm thinking a waterford with cheeks but it depends whether he likes it.

I've hopefully got both going to Somerford. Horse I rode today is doing PN again and sister's horse is entered for IN. I've never gone above Novice before and might chicken out last minute! Then all being well today's ride will end his season at Kelsall PN. Where are you next?

Winkburn on the 14th, then Burnham market on the 20th.... finishing at Oasby. Was going to do Somerford, but was going to do the PNP and he's nowhere near ready to do that SJing yet

Im going to the dark side. The thought of no more plaiting, chavvy browbands/saddleclothes/accesories and good cafe's close to ring side is very appealing
wink.gif
tongue.gif
Was going to say prize money that exceeds your entry fees too, but that would only count for you lot that can actually get round without knocking any of the damn fences down

I wasn't sure.... The girl that came off in the water took it so well didn't she - felt like clapping her for her sportsmanship. Shrugged her shoulders, patted her horse and smiled at the crowd - well done if you're reading!
