I've had my horse for over 12 years, and for the first time ever, I completely forgot to put my hat on when riding. I always wear my hat (and hi viz, remembered that okay!) but today I'd got over a mile down the road before I even realised, I'm obviously going senile! What made it even worse was that I then met a child being led on a pony, she was wearing a back protector and a hat, and I felt that I was setting such a bad example I apologied to the person leading the pony.

Bit of a pointless post, but I've really shocked myself... maybe a light in the tackroom would help then I could acually see the thing!

Haha unlucky

..luckily i wasnt too far, and could come back and throw one on.

I have done the same thing myself. Have to admit I don't wear a hat in the school but always always when out hacking. Got about half way round and realised I had my cap on but has forgotten to swap it for my skull cap!! Felt very vulnerable for the reat of the hack.

Did that about 5 years ago, first ride out on my own after breaking collar bone, so nervous, went over 3 busy roads etc, was out for about an hour or more, rode back onto the yard,
glanced inside my stable to see my hat still on the tack box, my blood went a bit cold

Also done it a couple of times since, set off for 18 mile Endurance ride, lady came running over to shout the male Marshall to tell me, think she was frightened to mention it herself, I went straight back to trailer to put it on.

Also done it in the school filming myself, rode off the yard with camera and tripod one handed, it's on photobucket.

Thankfully I haven't set off anywhere without my hat. However sometimes forgetting to fasten it, tighten the gitth up or even leave my hat on a way to a competition is another matter

That's happened to me twice, both times this summer! First time was at Area dressage; got all the way to the warm-up before someone pointed it out (thankfully not a steward!). Handed my pony to a random bystander and legged it back to the lorry to fetch it!

The other time, I was most of the way down the road into the woods...thankfully, still close enough to turn around and go back to get it.

Maybe it's all the knocks on the head I had this spring?

Speaking as one who has recently landed on one's head, and found a distinct lack of bounce, may I strongly recommend tha you tie it to the saddle then you can't forget it!

Two weeks 'till I can drive again, five weeks 'till I can ride. Then again, if I hadn't had my hat on...
