Just wondered if anyone knew anything about them! I have a black labrador, normal size, nice lad, got him at a year old. But some friends have a labrador (male), he's a year old but he's really tiny compared to what size my dog was at that age. Is there this kind of variation within the breed, is it common?

Ahh interesting! That could be it. He's still got a bit of growing to do but I can't imagine he would ever grow to the size of my dog (I almost put his name down, but it's too silly..).

Working breds round here are huge, rangey, leggy dogs so quite the opposite! There are always size variations in any breed though. I wouldnt think it abnormal, also they all grow at different rates, he may well catch yours up yet!

Yellow Dog is little compared to most labs. His mum was a working dog and his dad a show dog - when I met Yellow Dogs brother last year he was 5 inches taller than YD  I always thought working dogs would be smaller for going under bushes etc.

My little yellow working bitch is tiny, she looks more like a whippet! She is only just coming up to a yr old so obvs still has some growing to do but she is going to be a mini lab for sure, her Mum was tiny too. My other two are tall leggy rangy working types
