I've been on a yard that includes haylage in the livery for many years so I have no idea.

A friend is moving to a yard where they will have to get their own hay/haylage in....

What are the prices in the North West nowadays?

I'm paying £4.50 a bale for hay - that's YOs price though so I suspect direct from farmer it'd be more like £3.50 a bale!

Oh how I wish I could buy land

we paid £3.50 a bale of hay from a local farmer, but there was a minimum order of 20 bales. Good quality stuff too, although seen a lot around here for much more.

I am currently selling good quality seed hay for £180 per tonne delivered,in large square bales. Conventional bales would be substantialy more as both the farmer and I have to do a lot more work.£6 is pretty typical from a merchant. Incidentaly ,dont get palmed off with crap hay. There is plenty of good hay about, but a lot of gready folk baled up every piece of rough grass they could find. They are now trying to offload it onto the public, because in a few months it will be absolutely worthless.
