Really stupid question about flies!

I'm being an idiot, and i think i know at the back of my mind but have heard a few different things, so just thought i would check..
what time of day do the flies come out the most?

i do know that around 5/6pm recently theyve been attacking both me and the ponio--- and don't even get me started on the midges!!!

I always thought it was around dusk that the mozzies and stuff came out. Big bluebottle flies and stuff tend to be more towards the middle of the day, I think. I may well be completely wrong.

dawn and dusk is normally when they are worst, as proven by the many flies bites i've recieved when thinking its a brilliant idea to go hacking through woods in the evening!
