Really thick question....

I'm watching Hustle (I bet this is rarely how hunting enquiries begin!) and someone on there is "applying" to become a member of a hunt, and is going through a selection process... I always thought anyone could become a member of a hunt if they pay their subscription? I've never hunted myself (waaaay too much of a wuss!) but that's the impression I've got from here and friends who hunt. Would there ever be a selection process for hunt members or is this just a fiction the writers of the programme have made up?

I hope I haven't made myself sound too stupid.

Oh, I love Hustle, saw it was on but decided to start going to bed instead! Wish I'd watched it now.

There's no selection process! But then again I would imagine most hunt secretaries would know who their new subscribers are and would have met them. They may not want to accept a sub from some random they had never met before and had no idea about. But I may be wrong!

OK I think how it works is that some packs are private packs (very few in the UK but more overseas). Private packs pick and choose; public packs just happily take your money- unless you make a habit of kicking hounds or breaking gates!
