Really wanting to get his head onto the floor? any ideas?

I rode Hovis this mroning and he's worried me a little. He did nothing but want to get his head almost on the floor for most of the time? i let him stretch out and did a LOT of work on a very loose rein to try to get him to sort himself out but he wasn't happy about something?
So was it mites in his feather again? Something in his mouth? something pulled in his neck? The heat?
I'm going to wash his feathers when i get back from scotland in the mite stuff the vet gave me, i checked his mouth and couldn't see anything obvious?
Of course i'm not ruling out him taking the pee but i walked him round the field to cool off with omar and fit mare and normally he would be happy as larry doing this - but he still wanted his head right down almost floor level?
Any ideas?
 
funnily enough Don was in a "mood" today, I didn't dare canter him he was getting so odd. He was fussing with his bit a lot and putting his head down when I was asking him to go forward (which is why I didn't dare ask for canter, he felt like he was going to start broncing!)

I'm putting it down to an off day, he was laying down and asleep when I got to the stable (and me without my camera!!) so he might have been out of sorts ...

Has he done something to his back?

A few years ago when I was having a lesson at an RS another lesson girl had to get off when a horse was stretching oddly as they knew it was a symptom of that horse's back muscle problems reoccuring.

Hope he hasn't but worth bearing in mind.
 
I'm not ruling anything out. If after I've washed his feather he's no better then i might get the back lady out. He's not got a back problem though - in fact he's usually in great nick. Twice I've asked the back lady to look at him (routine) and i've not paid as she's not done anythng!
 
^ sorry if it sounded like I was suggesting he had a history of back problems - I've followed your posts & know he hasn't! I meant more that perhaps he's stretched something when having a roll in the field or galloping about?

Hope he's back to normal asap

It may be nothing. I do tend to wrap him in cotton wool as he's my baby. I'm going to try washing his feathers, then get back lady out then if no better try the vet.
he's not struggling with his breathing or anything, in fact no sign of anything obvious other than this sudden desire to have his head on the floor between his knees. It could be as simple as mites in his feathers again and he's trying to itch. Or his feathers are causing his legs to sweat in this heat. dunno. Just wondered if it rang any bells with people.
 
I gave the po a bath yesterday and she was furious - legs stamping and throwing a strop big style! I took her into the school to lunge her for 5 mins, just to drip dry her (!) and she flung her body round in canter with her nose on the floor the whole time and her neck cocked at a strange angle. I knew just by looking at the stroppy face that she was doing this to display her sense of humour failure! Wouldn't it be easier if they could just talk and tell us!
 
When my lad gets very heavy on the forehand (and I mean really heavy) it usually means that his pelvis has dropped and/or rotated (he came to me like that), would definitely agree about getting your chiro out to take a look.
