My horse's poo is horrendously stinky. If he poos on the yard we can smell it 8 boxes away. If one of his is in the muck skip it has to be emptied asap, nobody wants to be near it. In his stable the smell is so strong, and really odd. It doesn't smell like any horse ***** I've ever come across in 35 years
So, I happened to be a the vets today collecting meds and asked the receptionist if there were any tests that can be done on poo (I was clutching a bag of it, and smell was rising at this point) to see why on earth it smells so much etc etc, or could she find out if any particular health issue, such as liver disease, would make it smell so strongly. She said obviously there are specific tests for certain things like Salmonella but would go and do some research and get back to me. She asked me take the smelly bag away with me
Have any of your horses got this problem or have you come across it before? I used to think it was due to any meds he was on, like Gastroguard or antibios, but he's been off these for a while now. He is also very very wet in the stable (wee rises around your boot soles even on clean Aquamax) but his actual urine looks normal.
Just thought I'd ask, thanks peeps
