Thank you to all you wonderful people spending time tidying up and selling all of your unused tack and “stuff”.

I am delighted with the second hand high quality gear I have managed to procure during this time. Stuff I have wanted for ages.

Being an environmentalist and vocal opponent to fast fashion both generally and in the horse world I am loving seeing quality gear finding new homes rather than going into landfill.

Couldn’t believe my luck on a stunning set of gaiters/chaps that were Custom made for a lady and she didn’t like them. Never been used and fitted me like a glove. I was happy to pay the same price she had paid 10 years ago as they are just beautful.

I have also sold all my excess rugs.

What have you scored?

Well done on your bargains! I have so much stuff to sell - mostly saddlecloths and bandages, and a few rugs - but I'd kept putting off advertising as didn't think collecting was a non-essential journey so didn't think anyone would buy them! That's not a dig at you - I just thought people would be reluctant to come out for a set of bandages.

I might take a few photos and get some stuff listed on Facebook this weekend. We initially thought our jobs would be safe but the rumour mill is starting up at work now, so it'd be really nice to have a little extra in the bank, just in case...

I haven't sold anything, but my tack room has never been so tidy. Happy to help anybody who is short of random nose-bands, brow-bands, flash straps and cheek pieces. Please don't buy one unless you have to. I have LOADS! I think they have been breeding.

I also found a 7ft rug. I have never had anything over 15hh. Where did that come from?!

My barn is pristine. I have a pile of stuff to sell. My house.... not quite as successful. It still looks the same as it did pre lockdown. ?

Mine is much worse than before. We have two uni students back, so currently 7 of us living here, and most have suddenly taken up crafts of various types. There's bits of fabric scrap and thread everywhere!!

I should probably go through all of my tack! I cleaned a load yesterday - stuff I use throughout the year - show bridles (Inhand, ridden & filly slips) as well as the ponies saddles etc. I don't want to think about all the unused stuff I have kicking about that I will never use! I don't use saddle pads really so I don't have a huge collection of them! Bridles and saddles on the other hand ...

I did tidy out all of my rugs and have bagged up the irreparable ones to go to the skip when it reopens. I only have about 60-70 rugs left. I have probably put the same again in to go to the skip ...

But in my defence! I have winter rugs, fly rugs, show sheets, drying sheets etc for every size from 4ft to 6ft9"! I won't be using the 6ft9"s again as I wont be getting another big horse but they were Jeff's and I don't think I could part with them quite yet!

I have a lorry full of Stuff! that is all awaiting the charity shops opening again... If they don't I think I'll have to have a great big giveaway party as there's just no-where to put it all.

I've not started on the horse Stuff! as that's mainly in D2's garage some miles away and with lockdown I can't go get it (good job really as need to empty the lorry first... didn't think that one through and really hoping no vet emergencies!).

Sorting the barn is on my ever expanding list of jobs. No real idea as to what horse stuff is in there, other than an ridiculous number of mucking out forks, which as nothing is stabled is a tad excessive :rolleyes:

I've not really brought anything but have sorted out my tack room and barn, I was going to sell stuff but not sure I can be bothered with the hassle of people trying to get something in new condition for nothing or asking if it includes post ect when you've put everything in the advert.

Just thought - anyone with horse stuff that they no longer need or want, the horse charities are usually crying out for such things. I took a load of saddles to Barnsby's a few years ago. They use what they can and sell what they don't need.

Obviously the pandemic is affecting how this can be managed, but it's probably worth a call or email to your local charity :)

I’m glad I’m not the only rug collector ?

I have a lot of rugs from my old cob who passed away last year, he was in the same size as my girl who passed yesterday. I’m hoping they will fit my 2 year old at some point as I can’t bare to part with any of them

I've still got all my old boys rugs who I lost last year, I can't bare to part with them either but sadly they don't fit the new boy.

New boy got a nearly new rambo turnout for £35 last week and a sheepskin saddlecloth for a tenner so I've been benefiting as well. With jobs being uncertain buying secondhand seems much more sensible at the moment.

My tack room is looking a bit scruffy again though so I think you've inspired me to blitz it this afternoon....

I've managed to get loads of free paving stones and even more for a token payment. Its meant I have been able to pave all round the stables. I've also got a huge chicken coop, although its more of a use it rather than have it as its too big to ever move. It means I can take my chickens to the yard now. But its mainly the paving I'm happy about!

I had a massive clearout after losing Mr B and buying Rose, none of his stuff fitted her and I knew I'd never buy another horse as big as him again. Did a RC tack sale and made over £600 as everything was priced sensibly and good quality. I've still got lots of old rugs from previous horses/ponies but they are really useful in the garden protecting plants against frost. These are my beans, already in flower protected from the cold night air. Az6Q-_PfwVm_Okv6nCrpMrr20OM_jIy4DcmgNcy6peebYjaKt5USnds5rMdzXfGtJGqBzjAIGNIfTj-KlBcEYTSIR1ct8u...jpg

We use old rugs in the back of the car. The seats are down for the dogs and I'm always putting horrible things in it like paving stones or bin bags of rubbish. You can dangle the tail flap down over the back so the paint doesn't get scratched and if it gets dirty then we just chuck it in the washing machine. I doubt its properly waterproof anymore, but nothing has ever soaked right through it, so its doing its job just dine!

Im afraid i have failed at this challenge. I bought a new fly/uv rug (it was actually needed) a new saddle cloth (it was actually not needed) and lots of new clothes for ME for the first time in a long time lol lockdown has spared me cash to spend on myself and im trying very hard to think about why that is because for me not much has actually changed.

Edit to add, i cleaned my tack room and put away all the rugs (all 42 of them) and realised i only need about 6 of them. Will the rest be sold? No. Why? Cause. I am likely never going to need a 5ft rug again but my first pony had it and thats reason enough to keep it forever! Ditto to all the other rugs that fit nothing nor will ever fit anything hahhe

I sold all my rugs and bought a rambo optimo and liners. It was hard letting some of them go, but I've never once missed them and the rambo is genuinely the best rug I have ever owned!

I've done both!
Sold my 7ft rugs as my guy has grown, we're now in 7ft6! That pad for.... a 510 full breast bar as I only had one and I hated not having anything between him and the trailer ramp!

I went through my stuff but am useless at selling. The only way to fit my rugs into the bins was to buy vacuum seal bags to compress them!

I did sort a load of stuff for charity, but they aren't open yet and we have a skip coming on Tuesday, so sadly it will go there. It is only old clothes, and I rather think that charity shops will have an excess of that.

I haven’t really bought anything clear out wise as I’ve not wanted to collect! I did bend that rule for a really sweet little rabbit house type thing, I’d bought a huge run last summer but needed a indoor out of the weather hutch or something to sit in it and found one free to collector! It’s perfect.
I sold a load of rugs, all to the same person so didn’t get as much as I could of but it was a super easy cash no posting sale!
