I was wondering today why no company has yet made a rear facing trailer.

With it being said rear facing horseboxes are the best (and horses often travel better) it just got me thinking.

Surely you could turn the trailer idea on it's head and create a trailer with a front loading ramp and a rear unloading ramp and travel the horses facing rearward.

I am sure it would be doable while still maintaining the aerodynamics ans stability.

Just a thought, what are your thoughts?

We have a Wessex Olympian which is rear facing and front loading. Best trailer ours have ever travelled in.

thats interesting. I do imagine they would travel better so was wondering why the front facing style is pretty much universal.

wondered if there was a reason for them all being front facing

I have been looking for yonks for a 2nd hand rear facing trailer but they rarely come up for sale (not round my way anywy!) I love the look of the equi treks, especially with the wheels under the trailer & not sticking out like normal trailers but dont like the thought of it tipping over and not having another exit point for horses - why cant they make the small people door at back larger to fit horses through in case of emergency?!

I think the reason that most are front facing is because of the extra length they need to get the correct weight distribution so that the trailer does not have the weight pushing down on the tow vehicle, the extra length would weigh slightly more and could mean that loaded they would be overwiight some tow vehicles that are close to their limit with the smaller trailers. The other thing is that some people may be put off them because if they have to travel a horse thats not great to load the going in via a narrower ramp and then turning can make loading harder than walking straight in with more room for them on the ramp. It is possible though that a bad loader may like the trailer better if they face the rear though and start to load more easily though which would solve the problem!

As more get sold and they are seen more often it will be interesting to see if they get mre popular.
